I am officially calling myself a freelance photographer. I am planning everything out as best as I can. I am building a portfolio so that I can put up a website next year. I am having a hard time coming up with a name. My name is somewhat plain - Renay Johnson so anything I come up with sounds generic. Renay Johnson Photography doesn't sound good. I shoot every event, occassion. sports, cover fashion shows, parades and rallies. I'll start doing portraits eventually. I would like to have business cards to hand out as I do not want to hand out my employer business cards. Maybe now that you know my name, I can have help coming up with a business name. Oh, my initials are D R J. I just don't use my first name.

If you're doing freelance, I'd strongly suggest sticking to your own name. A sports or news agency is going to want to contract with YOU, not some random business name. Besides, you want to build name recognition as you the photographer, not a faceless business.

IMO and all that jazz.

I like RJ Photography. However, Karen has a good point about being freelance and contracts. You can always use your name, Renay Johnson Photography, which sounds very professional to me.

I agree with Tim on this one. Your name rolls off the tongue in a pleasant manner. Anyone who uses their name in a title, has a connotation of respectability and compentence.

I've been limping along with "Ferguson Digital Photography" for quite a while. My motto of "We Shoot Horses" really gets their attention.

Thanks Karen. I went to your site. Nice site and great city. I love Atlanta. I lived there once in 93. Of course, it snows when I moved there and it hadn't snowed in 10 years prior to the "blizzard of 93". I'm back in So Cal but I always remember those times I lived in "the south".
