Going through the usual photo site that I frequent, I found an in depth review on the Pro 1. Looks good to me.

Well, I had not seen this before but it's basically a marketing piece not a "real" review. The best "review" I have seen so far is at http://index.hu …icam/cikkek/pspro1_p/#eng (external link)

Thanks KRDV, This one looks good. I took the liberty of posting a link to this one on my other favorite site right below the other one.

I don't think that a review with the following disclaimer can be considered in-depth:

Since the camera we received was only a pre-production sample, we are not allowed to comment on image quality. We are going to publish our in-depth review of the camera as soon as we receive a final, production review camera.

... so save your time.

Regards,
Andy

That's always (or usually) the case with reviewers that get pre-production models. If you are looking for reviews on image quality, my guess is that you will have to wait for about a month. Canon doesn't want them publishing a final review before all of the kinks are worked out. Point is, many of the early reviews do little more than serve as a press release for Canon. This one I gave above actually had some critical remarks (although they seemed to like the Pro1) and contained some info that I didn't see anywhere else. I found it quite useful for an "early review" although others may find it a waste of time.

One encouraging quote from that site is the summary "We really liked the camera from the very first moment, but we started this review with a critical mind. After re-reading the article, I can hardly find critical parts. Is this camera really that good? Could be. But there is one thing we must not forget: we haven't seen the final picture quality yet. And that has to be really good to justify the rather high price of this otherwise great camera."

I like that accessories for lens are included with the camera. What's "robust, semi-pro" body"?

I hope that the autofocus will be as fast and as accurate as promised. If it's really close to the AF on DSLRs then it is going ot be a very attractive camera/

Yes, I hope you are right although I am fearful that there will be no real improvement. Worse, it appears that the AF assist lamp is gone. Why? ?!

The reviews mention a 'sensor-type' (remember the infrared sensors on old compact cameras) focus assist system.

Andy
