All the lenses have their distinct advantages, though the 24-70L is a very nice lens indeed and the pick of the crop amongst these three. It's f2.8 which is why you're paying the money but it's worth remembering that it's a NON IS lens. Canon EOS 1D MkIII, EOS 1D MkII N, EOS 30D

I have the 17-85 and it's hardly used since I got the 24-70. It does't even stay on my backup body really. Used the 50 and love it, but it doesn't offer too much that I can't do with the 24-70. I say go for it.
