Nah...save your pennies. The lenses you have are fine. Save up your money to get a nice, fast prime.

All the lenses have their distinct advantages, though the 24-70L is a very nice lens indeed and the pick of the crop amongst these three. It's f2.8 which is why you're paying the money but it's worth remembering that it's a NON IS lens.

If you like the IS and use it alot then you may want to think about that, although with f2.8 you're less likely to need it as you can run higher shutter speeds. You will also lose a little wide angle going up to 24mm so do you take a lot of landscapes and will this be an issue?

The 50mm f1.8 is probably not worth selling because it's such a cheap lens anyway, you'll not get much for it, certainly in relation to the amount you need to pay for the 24-70L. Also it's one of Canon's gems. A cheap but very good lens.

The 17-85 IS USM is a great general purpose lens but being EF-S it will not be any use if you decide later to upgrade to 5D or 1D series. It's pin sharp, gets rave reviews and with the image stabiliser has the edge on many lenses when the light levels start to fail. I've got one fitted on my backup camera (30d) and have used it successfully on low light shoots taking full advantage of the IS function.

I hope the info is useful.

well, I don't shoot landscapes at all, street photography is my hobby - I shoot people mostly.
yes and I did get used to 17-85, very useful and I have some nice night shots too. and 50mm, its MK I old version :) so I can sell it for 150$.

thanks again, I like L's for the sealing - 17-85 sucks so much dust I can hardly keep it clean. another problem with it is that I don't use wide end of it, 24 on the other hand would be perfect for me, as long as it keeps it sharp and nails away the shots.

it is a great lens for portraiture, if that's what you like. i rented the 24-70L for 3 days last week & it was really difficult to turn it back in. i don't think you'd regret it. at least i know i wouldn't.:D

24-70 is one of my favorite lenses.. I have the 17-85 and it's hardly used since I got the 24-70. It does't even stay on my backup body really. Used the 50 and love it, but it doesn't offer too much that I can't do with the 24-70. I say go for it.

That sounds like one hell of a trade. The brick takes some people a bit to master, but it is a fantastic lens when you get to know it.
