As far as used is concerned, if you're in a major metropolitan centre, keep a lookout for local vendors (and monitor the Kijiji and Craigslist boards) selling a suitable camera. That way you will be able to check it out before handing over payment.

FWIW I bought my 20D used (via an ad on POTN) from a guy in the Toronto area, and he dropped by my work to deliver it, so I was able to take some shots, upload them to my work computer and confirm the camera was good (though to be honest I didn't pixel peep to the level that would reveal a scratched low-pass filter (that protects the sensor)).

thats good to hear. I am not worried about paying the ticket and having a place for you to stay. When I see what I like, I have no problems paying for it. After seeing the goons that did my sister's wedding, I would not hesitate on bit for your quality work. I will keep you in mind. Thx

She paid 3K CND for them.

no. atleast not at that price range. this spring you'll probably see a replacement for the 30d, 1dsmkII and 1dmkIIn. the 5d and rebel are the last to be replaced.

I thought the 5D was released late 2005 with the 30D following early 2006?

If so, then shouldn't the 5D be up before the 30D?

One can only hope. I'd like to see the price on the 5D plummet so I can pick up a used one for portrait and wedding photography. :)

the 30d is hardly an upgraded 20d, which has been out for even longer

Just buy 5d and do the triple rebates. Turn around and sell the stuff you buy. And use the Dell deals, as Corey said. 85 1.8, 50 1.4, and whatever other stuff you think would be cool will defintely sell fast, especially if you claim it to be unused. Maybe even keep one of them.

Same could be said for the 1D Mark II N. And there's little doubt that it will be upgraded early 2007...

Relatively speaking, the 30D is a more upgraded 20D than the N, a upgraded 1dMKII.

30D adds spot metering, 1/3 ISO stops. Those can be big things, depending on the application. For me, doing lots of low light stuff and sports in gyms, both those were very valuable. That's why I did not buy the 20D when I was looking, even though the price was dropping on them(new and used).Although I'd argue these features should have been on the 20D, to start with.

The only thing I want is a 5DMkII with 5fps. That's all I'm asking. 5fps.

...all of which supports my argument that the 5D will see a face-lift before the 30D. Read back a couple of posts and you'll see where I'm going with this. ;)

You are correct!

I don't know, i just can't justify $2000+ on a camera that I will only be using to putz around. It will not bring in any money. If I would be doing wedding where I would rack in $2k in 1 day, then I would be getting 2-3 of them.

I am an amateur that owns a elan 7ne and is trying to convince himself to go digital. I almost bought the XTi, but compared to my Elan, its like eating provolone or kraft singles.

I would settle for the 40d that is suppose to come out in a few months, but its still a crop camera. I want a full frame for my first digital camera to make the transition eaier on my eye/focal view.

When i compared my 17-40 to my friend's 17-40 on a 30d at his lab, we realized how much view we lost on the 30d when we were about 15 feet away from his wall of frames. More than 8 feet!

no way I can setle for that on my new camera. Thats whats wrong with buying a 1.6 "in my head" that is...

Thx guys for all your opinions. Just scoping out the market as I was and am still a firm believer of film, but that is slowly fading away. LOL

I'm almost in your boat. I do have a digital (a 300D), but it pales in comparison to my Elan 7N and until I can afford a full frame digital body ... I will continue to shoot mostly with the Elan.

Something will happen. I talked to the local camera guy yesterday and he said even with Christmas and the rebates, camera sales are down. He thinks everyone is on the edge for the new releases next year before May 07.;)

I still doubt the 5d will be replaced with the others this spring. theres no competition, theres no direct problems with it, its new for on the product market comparativly.
