Taken on a miserable overcast day, around noon, with 350D, Tokina 28-70mm, and Singh-Ray polarizer. C&C welcomed.

Well if thats what you call a miserable day.. do not.... I repeat, do not visit Scotland !!

Would love to have seen the full display of FG rocks in this shot, although you may be avoiding the inclusion of other obstacles around the fort :)

You are right - there is a huge asphalt parking lot round it on two sides, and the ocean on the other two. I managed to clone out an unsightly garbage can placed against one of the walls. It's basically a square, and not a very photogenic place. I was using it for practice with the Singh-Ray gold 'n' blue polarizer.

I've been to Scotland twice, the weather was fantastic both times - it must have followed me across the Atlantic! It's been in the 70's here for a few days, and very windy and overcast most of the time. We call that rotten weather! (ducking.........)

70's which equates to +20 Deg C

We're lucky to get it that warm 2 weeks of the year  5 DegC (40f) wet and windy right now :(

It also looks like there is a hotel (or several) behind the fort on the left too, so your tight crop and cloning certainly makes the fort look its best. I also laughed about the cold day thing too, and it reminded me of the time that I spent christmas in Florida when I was walking about in shorts and the locals almost looked like they were dressed for an arctic expedition.

Lovely shot of the fort Elisabeth, do you have any history to share?

Hmmm...not sure about this EA, it feels a little unfinished, and I'd certainly explore different crops, that new building in the BG jars a touch, the cut-off rocks distract and that small slice of path bottom right shouldn't be there.

1749.....Dimitri was just a twinkle in his mother's eye ;) :) :)

Concentrate on equipment and you'll take technically good photographs. Concentrate on seeing the light's magic colours and your images will stir the soul. - Jack Dykinga

Check it out at the above link. There is also a photo of the whole fort, which was taken before Paradise Island, which is in the background, was invaded and built up with multi storey condos! It now poses a hideous backdrop for photography. I'll go back there over the holidays and do some examples. Every time I turn around it seems that areas that used to be great to photograph are disappearing in the name of progress:mad: and this island is only 21 miles by 7.

Actually I was quite pleased with the polarizer, keeping in mind this was not a sunny day - the original image was slightly tinged with red, and that was about the only adjustment needed. I'm finding that colours are stronger generally with the gold n blue - it's effect can be too strong sometimes, and very slight rotations can produce very different effects.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p
