Is the XTi worth $200 more than an XT?

Hello-

I am deciding between the XTi and XT. I am sure this has been beaten to death, but is the XTi worth the price? I am an amature, looking forward to learning how to use an SLR.

Does anyone have an opion on which one to get? I know the differences, but not sure they are worth $200.

Thanks,
Steve

There are a few more things, but I generally agree, image quality wise you will not be able to tell the difference. $200 and some change gets you another lens.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

It is more than worth it. Fast/better focus.... richer files....and about two or three more things wrong with the XT...

I sold my XT and immediately got the XTi!!!!!!

You will be very happy.

A camera is a tool. So between the two, when you handle it, which works best for you?

Just out of curiosity, what are the other things that are wrong about the XT?

This will help my decison.

thanks,
Steve

To me they both felt the same. Like anything newer I was attracted to the Xti's superficial feature of a larger display.

I cant see it being worth it going from a XT to XTi..thats not much of an upgrade at all..Now if you are starting fresh.the XTi would be worth it for the Focus system, 2.5" screen and sensor cleaner.

The only Downfall of the XT/XTi I think is its small body.

i've seen xti's or 400ds for far less more than that... $200 more than a 350d does seem somewhat excessive

Canon 40D :: 50mm f1.8 mk II :: 17-40mm f4 L :: EX 430 :: Canon EOS 50 :: Canon AE-1 Program :: FD 50mm f1.8 :: FD 28mm f2.8 :: FD 135mm f3.5 :: Ilford HP5 Film :: Developing kit. No website, nothing serious, I just like taking photos

I have found that it's currently about $175 more, with kit lens.

I vote yes if you are starting new and no if you are just thinking about upgrading.

What I like better about the XTI having had both:

1 - sensor cleaner
2 - larger display for viewing pics ( yes I chimp but mostly at the histogram)
3 - The camera settings display on the main screen and is easy to read, great for changing your settings while on the move.
4 - More focus points
5 - buttons on the back of camera (particularly the buttons left of the screen are better)

The one thing I think the XT has over the XTi is it's status screen isn't shared with the preview screen. Gosh that would annoy me to no end!!
Other than that, yeah... I'd take the XTI, especially if you have F2.8 or faster lenses.

Yes, I am starting from scratch. I have an older Rebel 35mm and a dead Canon s230 pns. I have 2 lenses, but they are not very good. I am enrolled in a beginners digital photography class at the New Hampshire Institute of Art, a DSLR is required.

Thanks,
Steve

i would go with the 350d, body only and use the change to get a better lens, perhaps a sigma 17-70.

XTi...hands down. The improved focus is well worth the difference. Once your camera has missed the focus time after time, you'll certainly wish you'd have spent the extra $200. As an XT user, I am trying to decide on whether or not to upgrade mine to XTi, but if I was starting from scratch, there'd be no contest.
