Worry, for Hasselblad feels a popup is useful enough to include one:

I see nothing wrong with the emergency popup flash as long as it does not take away from any other aspect of the camera.

Tell me which town. I need to practice my photojournalism too, will be there with 1D and 70-200/2.8 ;)

If you are tossing any Hassy's on the fire, I will see if I can pinch one or two before they get too badly warped :p

My lenses and hoods block it, and I carry a speedlite all the time. But mostly I don't like how it interupts the design of the front of the camera :(. The 5D/1D look so much better :D. (It also worries me that it's a big sieve for water if you get caught in the rain).

I'd be curious to see the Hassy pop/fill flash in action.

Actually, you remind me of a good point. I am a 5D AND 1D owner, and have large glass with even bigger hoods. That having been said the 350D with 17-85 is a very nice combo though :D

I do not carry a speedlite unless I think I will need it, but in those cases I just bump ISO anyway. But when I do need it.. I have a 430EX, ST-E2 and I dare to use them :D

Not every user of a DSLR is striving to be the next Ansel Adams/Edward Weston /(Insert Your Favorite Shooter Here). For the casual photographer, the pop-up flash makes perfect sense and can spell the difference between catching the shot and a big blur. If you are really that annoyed by a camera having that feature...just buy one that doesn't have it. Problem solved.

And even those of us who do take the hobby seriously (but have a profound lack of talent anyway) value the onboard flash for those occasions where it does work, and where it's convenient. My 350D is filling the role of a 'point and shoot' with the nice fringe benefit that it seems to accept whatever EOS system accessories that I keep lying around :D

Well, I will trade you a 30D and you can give me the extra money to buy a 1DMKII. Problem solved, right? Or I'd trade a weather sealed 30D for a lack of popup flash.

My point is, the cameras that have those extra features are far beyond the price, so its not that simple. I reallyu don't bash the popup flash but it can get annoying when you are running around because the popup button isn't too hard to activate. I really should tape it down, but then it does look weird with tape on it.

bad idea, it'll get you an error message on your camera and then you have to power down and restart...

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

I'm not a huge flash user either way, but I only use my 430EX... I've never used the pop-up flash on my 30D and have never missed it on my 1D. If Canon would make a 30D without a pop-up flash for, say, $30 less, I'd go for it.

Instead of $30 less, would you take a nice huge prism and resulting big n bright viewfinder? :)

A knowledgeable photog once pointed out to me that one possible reason that the popup was sacrificed was to leave more room for the huge prism on the 5D. My reply was "Dude, I can DEFINITELY live with that!"

I use the prism every day, but the flash, not really.

a lot of natural light shooters use the popup as they just need some very light fill, and the popup does the job in a fantastic way. I do that too to travel light. 30D & 50 1.4 feels awkwardly balanced with a 580EX up top.

I don't have any add-on flashes, it seems the pop-up adds additional problems like skin is to white or you might see the reflection of the flash as well? I thought about turning it way down to try to prevent this? Do you guys swivel the flash up when taking a portrait type picture...say if you go to somebody's house or something? TIA
