Please make sure you have read and understood all the rules before submitting your photos.

Remember, everyone is welcome to join in. You don't need to be an expert or to have a fancy camera, this is all just about having fun and, through that, getting better at photography.

Just please make sure you've read all the rules before sending in your pictures.

As per usual, you may submit up to two photos for this competition.

Good luck everyone!

RULES

1) The contest will run for approximately two weeks and will end on 29th December, 2006 at 8:00AM GMT.

2) You can submit up to two pictures, and change these if you wish up to the time that the competition ends.

3) Post processing - nothing that substantially changes the original composition of the image. Click herefor clarification.

4) Photos must be no larger than 800 pixels at the longest dimension and a maximum of 200k. Click here for help on this.

5) No framing of pictures, text or copyright notices. This is to ensure anonymity but please remember that copyright continues to remain within the photographer.

6) This competition is a learning experience so we ask you, where possible, to take photos espeically for the contest.

7) At the end of the competition, a separate thread will be started to seek the votes of forum members over the period of 1 week. The person with the most votes will be declared the winner.

 The winner will be recorded in the Hall of Fame

9) There are no prizes for this contest.

Please be patient with me if it takes one or two days for me to get submissions posted.

Finally, please ensure that you have read this post fully and understand the rules prior to sending

Just wished to add to the definition... Thanks

Juxtaposition

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Juxtaposition is an act or instance of placing two things close together or side by side. This is often done in order to compare/contrast the two, to show similarities or differences, etc.

  • In logic (external link), juxtaposition is a logical fallacy (external link) on the part of the observer, where two items placed next to each other imply a correlation, when none is actually claimed. For example, an illustration of a politician and Adolf Hitler (external link) on the same page would imply that the politician had a common ideology with Hitler. Similarly, saying "Hitler was in favor of gun control, and so are you" would have the same effect. (see Reductio ad Hitlerum (external link))
  • In music (external link), it is an abrupt change of elements.
  • In film (external link), the position of shots next to one another (montage (external link)) is intended to create meaning within the audience's mind.
  • In photo (external link), the position of objects one upon the other (mounted (external link)) is intended to create meaning within the audience's mind.
  • In literature (external link), a juxtaposition occurs when two images that are otherwise not commonly brought together appear side by side or structurally close together, thereby forcing the reader to stop and reconsider the meaning of the text through the contrasting images, ideas, motifs, etc. For example, "He was slouched gracefully" is a juxtaposition.
  • In mathematics (external link), juxtaposition of symbols is commonly used for multiplication (external link): ax denotes the product of a with x, or a times x. It is also used for scalar multiplication (external link), matrix multiplication (external link), and function composition (external link). In numeral systems (external link), juxtaposition of digits has a specific meaning. In geometry, juxtaposition of names of points represents lines or line segments.
  • In paintings (external link), juxtaposition of colours, shapes, etc, is used to create contrast.
  • In physics (external link), juxtaposition is also used for "multiplication" of a numerical value and a physical quantity (external link), and of two physical quantities, for example, three times, would be written as 3π and area equals length times width as A = lw.
  • In grammar (external link), juxtaposition refers to the absence of linking elements in a group of words that are listed together. Thus, where English (external link) uses the conjunction (external link) and (e.g. mother and father), many languages use simple juxtaposition ("mother father").

I had to look it up also. Then I went to the Yahoo search engine and type in juxtaposition as an image search and saw plenty of examples to help me get a better feel for it.
