I have a Canon A70, on the back of the camera is the viewer (I don't know what the technical name for this is, but it shows you what you are taking a picture of). In any case, when I turn the Camera on, this is black. I've tried doing a bunch of things, but nothing seems to work.

Is there something I'm missing? Or is this camera kaput?

Thanks

We'll need more information about the camera, otherwise we'd just be guessing.
Do you get the same response (black screen) in shooting mode as well as viewing mode?
Does the lens extend? Zoom motor run? Make pictures on the flashcard?
Is the problem sudden or did it come on gradually in some way? If so, what symptoms led up to the failure?

If the camera seems to work otherwise it could be the LCD or the sensor. This camera's sensor is under recall for early failure and Cannon warranty a repair or replacement (I don't know which) if that's what failed. The usual symptoms of this failure are purple lines in the image, though.

Sorry, should have provided more detail. Here is goes:

This only occurs in shooting mode, pictures that were previously taken could be seen in view mode. The lens does extend and the zoom motor runs. If I try to take a picture and go into view mode to look at it, it comes out black.

Hard to say what led up to this. I had it stored away for a couple of months, so it went unused for about 3 or 4 months.

Hope that helps. I'm not sure if it's worth taking it in to get it repaired...or just buying a new one. THanks
