You picked a tough subject to image. This image, in my opinion, would work well if the Sun could be brought under control. Maybe you could look at the histogram, and see if the Sun is totally blown out. If it is, then not much you can do. If there is a bit of leeway at the upper end, then perhaps some layer processing in PS or equivalent could salvage the Sun and the picture.

My advice is to avoid these kind of tough subjects in your early learning stages.
Of cours i`m not saying not to try them as practice...
