I've recently brought my camera to have the sensor cleaned. When I brought it back and took some shots, the Auto Focus red lights inside the viewer is not showing up. I made sure that I had set it to display in the Menu but still nothing shows up.

What Happened??

Furthermore, if I turn on the internal Flash (flip it up) ....there will be a very faint red light (very faint) showing up near those AF square marks when I flip the auto focus points around- as if something was knocked off loose? Very Wierd.

If I remember correctly, the red AF confirmation lights don't show in Al-Servo mode. You might want to check if you're in One-shot or Al-Servo.

No I tried one shot and still no light, there is a very very faint blurry red light. So something tells me that something went loose inside???? The bulb obviously did not burn out.

Does it have to do anything with the sensor cleaning and the way it is wired near the sensor????

NOW I AM WORRIED, yes the light is Super Faint. I did not have the sensor cleaned at Canon. I went to some Shop- International Camera in Chicago- they were the only people who cleaned sensors in house.

I had a bad feeling when I handed off the camera to the old guy. He sais that he used some special solution on the sensor..is this consistent with sensor cleaning?? Or are you not supposed to apply anything to the sensor???

His shop was 95% old cameras and I didnt see any digitals.

How is focusing, other than no red light confirmation?

If the focusing screen is turned the wrong way you get dim focus confirmation lights sometimes..
But, in that case focusing is screwed up as well.

Forget about sensor, your problem is elsewhere..

The focusing seems to be fine, just no light anymore.

If focusing screen is turned around (which could have easily happened when they cleaned camera) correct focus would be possible, but not all the time!
It’d not be consistent with some unpredictable results – but very noticable!

Sorry, it is probably something else..

So if the focusing screen is turned? then there is no possible way to ever get it back to normal???? This is what it sounds like from what you are saying?

What do you mean could be possible but not all the time?? So how do i get it back to normal.

No, it is actually very easy to fix!
If you confirm that flipped focusing screen is the real problem, I’ll show you how to do that yourself..

Gimmie a sec, I’ll try to find the link..

k thanks. But I just did some test shots and the focus and sharpness of the picture seems to be good. But send me the links anyways.

In the meantime, back to why the red light is now superfaint...which I can only pick it up in the dark. Otherwise it is pretty much gone.

Also, was this guy supposed to have washed the sensor with some liquid?

I cannot find visual examples of improperly installed focusing screen, but these two links will show you how to take it out.

http://home.kc.rr.com/educ/screen/html/lessons_learned.html (external link)

http://www.camerahacker.com/Tools/Installing_Haoda_Screen.shtml (external link)

Anyway, it is easy to test.
I don’t see which lenses and camera you own, but it’s pretty much the same for all APS-C cameras.

Use your normal lens open wide all the way and shoot something that shows DoF easily.
Computer keyword first comes to mind.
Take a shot from closest distance and auto focus to a certain key.
Try it a few times, each time resetting focus.

If you get some weird results, focus screen is probably flipped the wrong way, if focus is okay on most of them, problem is elsewhere..

that red light is pretty useless unless you always use one-shot... if it's in warrentee, send it somewhere and get it fixed if it really bothers you

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.
