Alright, I have two Rebel XT kits. One is brand new with a couple shots on it to make sure it worked, the other has 5k shots on it.

I could prob get $1000-$1050 for both. Also have a brand new never opened 50mm 1.8 II I can sell.

Im thinkin about upgrading to an XTi, I think i can get it from Dell for $640 (except it might take a month to get with thier great shipping. BH has it for $700.
I was thinking about a 20D, but I really like the feel of the XT, although I havent ever had time to take a full day of pics with a 20D or so camera. I took about 15 pics with my friends 10D and 70-200 2.8. It was pretty heavy!

What would you guys reccommend doing. I dont want to spend all my money, but could pay a little extra if I needed. It sucks being 16 and working at Taco Bell :o

Glass, glass, and more glass. And no, upgrading glass does not mean L lens. But you can still upgrade.

Nope, not enough of a move up to bother. Another vote for glass.

trust me, it's worse being in college with no job...

i'm suprised you went for two kits either way... i put my money into buying lenses, and i'm completely happy about it. lenses>upgraded camera (unless it's a large jump, as in xt to 30d or 1dmkIIn)

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

I'm in college and have a job but it doesn't pay enough to do anything with, perhaps a flash card a month.

And don't upgrade the body. Seriously. Buy lenses. Be careful not to fall prey to the L fever. It does help you lose weight, but it's all money-weight.

Another vote for GLASS ... the 18-55 and 50/1.8 are a good start, but you should definitely get more glass instead of a second body ...

What are the additional features of the XTI that you so badly need over the XT? New bodies will keep coming and going every year ... your glass is what stays with you.

Some suggestions ...
... something long (e.g. Tamron/Sigma 70-300)
... more good primes, like the 35/2.0 or 85/1.8 if you like using your 50/1.8
... UWA? ... Sigma 10-20/Tamron 12-24/Canon 10-22 if you like to photograph landscapes...

Best regards,
Andy

Sell one of the bodies and get a 70-200 f/4L.

And just one more thing. You might like the feel of the Rebel XT, but the 20D is much more comfortable to hold IMO and there is more quality about it.

Some of the best advice about upgrading that I've seen on this forum was posted by Jon a few days ago:

If you're wondering whether you'll benefit from getting the newer camera, you probably won't. The time to change cameras is when you know exactly why you want to ugpgrade to the newer one.

Yeah I guess i can shoot with my XT a little longer (I had to chance to buy another really cheap, thats why I have two) I bought both new.

Should I just keep my 5K shot XT and sell the new one? or sell my used one and then start over with a new XT, and ill be getting a new 70-200 F/4 either way.

I guess i can wait for the 30D to come down in price and upgrade to that in a year. Thanks for the advice

Glass, budget flash, tripod. I got my flash for $80 a couple weeks ago and LOVE IT.

You only need one body. Sell one, get more glass. The 70-200 f4 is an excellant start. Perhaps something to replace the kit lens.

Sell one of the XT's, and any lenses you don't need, keep the XT you want, then get the L lens 24-105 f/4L IS. You wil be better off since the XTi isn't much of an upgrade when compared to the upgrade in lens you will experience.

I'd keep the 5K one, as you will most likely get more for the new one.

And 5 K more or less images does not make much difference in an XT.

Andy
