I took these shots among others on a nice beautiful day in Long Beach California. This used to be a Navy base and was later remodeled once the Navy closed the base. The Lighthouse reminds me of some Microsoft logo for a windows version -- maybe vista. I took these with a Canon S3 using a Sony .7x wide lens on a tripod. I have also have been using Adobe Photoshop elements 5.0 to edit color. I find it much better at color editing than GIMP. Like always C/C is welcome.

The "windows vista log" f4 1/1000 (1/3 less from the right)

Very nice shots. I would recommend though that you don't always try and centre the main focal point (such as the lighthouse). For instance, I think #1 would have more impact of the lighthouse was more to the right, and you caught more of the palm trees on the left. #2 is my favourite although it would have been nice to see more of the reflection. Hope this helps. :)

I agree with John. And if you had moved the lighthouse to the right, it would've also hidden that dying/yellowing grass.

I like the colours of number two.

I will try that, but I think there was huge tree on the left (or people). Next time I will wait longer. ON #2 I think I couldn't show more reflections, since it would shot the rocks where I was taking the shot from -- just like the ones where the restaurant is. The restaurant and lighthouse are across each other. There is also lots and lots of people coming and going. Excellent points and thanks for the C/C.

Hi

Very nice captures with some really vivid colours.

Number 1 works very well in the square format.Just crop approx 1/3 off the right hand side.
I think I would be tempted to crop number 2 into a more panoramic format. There is also some vignetting starting to appear in the corners.

Very nice.

I agree with John about the composition, but these are still very nice shots of what looks like a beautiful place
*adds LBM to the list of places to visit"

PS That Sony lens is giving you significant CA around the fringes.

Yup it will give you even more if it was not sunny and clear like it was then...until I get nuff money to get me a 30D with a REAL glass. Nothing I can do...thanks for the comments.

The LBM is a real nice place to take pictures. you have the queen mary view from the lighthouse.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

These are nice, crisp shots. The compositional tips are all good ones. The second has more "pop", but doesn't need that large expanse of un-interesting sky.
