1st shot with 2x Converter (opinions or experiences welcome)

Hi guys,

Just got a teleplus MC7 2x Converter, was desperate to take some shots with it. Unfortunately today was a terrible overcast windy day with not much on. I wanted to get some surfers but there weren't many waves. Did manage to fire off a few shots of the very little action there was though. I used it with my 400D with a 75-300mm f4/5.6. I found it is roughly compatible, the auto focus is not really reliable which doesnt bother me too much and u do lose a few stops of light, which isnt ideal for sport but ok in daylight conditions. Just wondering if anyone has used a similar combo and if so do u have any pointers? Love to hear from anyone at all. I have attatched one shot, as it was taken, no crops or editing, any opinions are welcome.

P.S Given the right weather it'll get a good test this weekend!

Your right, it looks a real murky day! I also think it looks a little on the soft side, not sure whether thats an effect of the lens or the combo you are using.

Cropping to the left would also help, maybe you could loose half the "space" on the right of the pic (IMHO) .

Try again on another day, in better light and I think your results will improve tremendously.

Hi again thanks for the comments, I think (well i'm hoping) that the softness is just a focussing error with me using manual focus on such a fast moving object . I'm attending a cricket match on Sunday which is a lot better for manual focussing and will be the first true test of this converter I guess. I have included a crop which shows the focussing isnt the best. I probably wouldnt highly recommend this combo, but it will have to do me until i can afford a 500 or 600mm lens.

i would recommend you go with the 1.4x converter instead
of the 2x. it allows you to autofocus with the converter,
and if you have forgotten, your camera body already has a
1.6x on it
