Not seen that particular model before. Although I purchased the original (expensive!) Canon version, but many people have bought the Opteka version.

Just click Search, and enter "Opteka grip", and click "go", to find out more on that one.

Yup - I don't think Opteka do one for the 10D/20D/30D but it does have a reasonable reputation.

Never seen these before - The 20D/30D has never had a third party grip that I've ever heard of - must be new I guess...

If it fits & works OK it's a good price.

Agreed - but don't want to fork out the cash for one if they're worse than the Canon ones (which aren't all that wonderful anyway).

those "link delight" ones are going to be garbage. they're very cheaply made and are even worse than the opteka ones. id suggest just lurking these forums and www.sportsshooter.com (external link) classifieds for a used one. I got one off here for $185.00 CAD.

As you can see from my signature I have Canon gear, but it takes almost no searching at all to find huge numbers of people who had problems with the Canon one. What's wrong with the Canon ones? Well, they're poorly constructed, flex, and can cause the camera to shut down in use when in portrait orientation due to the connectors not touching properly due to the aforementioned flex.

Have you used one? I've heard less complaints about the Opteka 250D grips, than the Canon BG-E2 - in fact every person I know who has got the Opteka grip is delighted with it! Just because it's more expensive doesn't mean it's not garbage. . . e.g. my £250 85mm f/1.8 is a helluva lot sharper than the £900 16mm-35mm f/2.8 Ls that a couple of friends of mine have. Likewise the IQ on the £800 17-55 f/2.8 IS is not that much better (if at all) than the £275 Sigma EX 18-50.

The # of people that bought Canon ones is probly a lot more thank the Opteka.. Its a simple Buyer:Problem ratio..

Buy what ever you want I would just trust the Canon peice to be better cause its OEM Canon, not a copy.

Though Ive gone throuh a couple thousand exposurs with the grip, I have not had an issue.

And I'm very glad you have - I wasn't saying that all BG-E2s are crap, I was just using it as an example of sticking to the "buy Canon, it's obviously the best" isn't necessarily true.

Apologies if that sounded a bit ranting, but all I wanted to know is if anyone has got one, and what they thought of it, and getting responses of "they're obviously garbage" from someone who probably hasn't seen one, or "buy Canon if you have a Canon camera" from someone else who hasn't seen one, just end up turning the thread into a flame war - which I've seen more than enough of, and the relatively small number of bunfights is one of the reasons I've been a member here for so long, as opposed to slashdot, dpreview, and others.

If this is widely known, why is there a question if theres a difference in quality?

The original post had a BG that looked like a cheap copy.

EDIT: Im not trying to argue or start anything, I just apply the things I've learned and try to let other people know. I've seen first had that the same mold doesnt mean the same quality of the entire product.

I always hear the Opteka one is exactly the same but I've heard some complaints that the shutter release is soft compared to the Canon one.

and for the ebay link posted above, I have no idea if that is good or bad. but if youre paying like 95USD for that, I'd rather get an Opteka one and not risk S/H from China and getting something thats not widely known...

Grargh - Coco-Puffs was just pointing out that whilst everyone seems to be bashing non-Canon grips (including the Opteka ones) they're actually fine, but I'm asking about this other one.

Now whilst it's not an Opteka one, just because it's not Canon does not mean it's rubbish. So has anyone actually seen / held / used one of these?
