Jerry Lampen is a photographer from Rotterdam who was also one of the winners. He won the first prize in the category General News.

His photo of a woman in Iraq mourning about her husband is here: http://www.worldpressphoto.nl …y=179&prize=208&wid=33931 (external link)

Today I was in a café (café Floor in Rotterdam) - there was a radio show in the café and he was interviewed there. Here he is (the guy on the right), telling a very impressive story of what he had seen in Iraq, with his winning photo in the background:

Hmmmm... How were guys able to lift copyrighted photos off of that
world photo site? Not complaining, mind you; just curious.

Suddenly I am very pleased to be shooting flowers and butterflies. Kind of makes OUR dangerous photos look pretty tame.

If you mean "How'd you get around that stupid Javascript trick that some websites have", just use a different browser, that doesn't go ape when you do a right-click on an image.

Really annoying, that. What if I just wanted to see the properties of the image, or open it in a different window? What if I wanted to use it as my desktop background image (fair use, in spite of what the more rabid 'protectors of copyright' would have you beleive). These are all things that I do from a right-click context menu, and when web sites tinker like that with my browser, I don't appreciate it.

I don't appreciate being accused of illegal activities when I'm attempting to exercise my fair use rights.

On the other hand, folks should know better than to post copyrighted images (without permission) on other web sites or forums. Links only, please.
