I got them all in my cart. My entire sig is full of stuff bought less than two months ago. Now here I am thinking of pushing the button on all of these? Should I do it? Is this crazy. I hate this site!!!!!!!! ;) I really think I am going to hit the checkout button any minute now. The page is on my second monitor, just bought a few days ago so I could edit better on a 22" than my laptop. Geez, every darn day I come here, and then shop for more stuff. My two filters aren't even here from Hong Kong yet!

Sorry if these don't show well, only my second attempt at screen print and then converting to jpg.

Hahahaha, the only one available in that size would be the 50mm "L" and I just can't justify that much money for what appears to be such a tiny step upwards.

BTW, JCR...your sig is one of my favorite lines of all time. I've used it many a year. I'm going to pick up the thinkgeek.com shirt that says it one of these days. :) The best is when people just look at you funny.

You and me both joegolf, far too rich for my blood. Ill content myself with my lil f/1.4 and enjoy the shots from those that do own one. It would be wasted on me at my current level anyway, maybe one day tho.

Jman, yea makes me chuckle too. Ahh a T shirt would be cool, might see about that myself.

You should only purchase it if you can truly afford it. If it is going on a credit card that will carry a balance, forget it.

Ahh the voice of sensibility. Your right mr Klepper, one should never live beyond their means and always respect the power of the %-age.

But then there is the twisted flip side voice that will tell you, if you die owing, you won at least 1 small victory in life. So the key question should be, can I afford it? followed by, how healthy am I feeling? ;)

I've had this internal debate for the last couple years. My common-sense side always loses to my compulsive side, and I've just about run out of things to buy. I'm so desperate, I even bought one of the 50mm f/1.2Ls. What's with that? I take pictures of trains in broad daylight. What do I need f/1.2 for?

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Wooooooooooow !!!.... Nice purchase, JoeGolf. I think this photography thing is starting to grow on you. ;)

I have seen plenty of debate between buying tons of equipment, and not. To me, the first rule is affordability. If you did not have to sell your kid's lunch box to get these, I am happy for ya. Unfortunately I have seen two or three people in this forum drop serious money on a high end camera, three or four L lenses, and the usual accessories, thinking they could get to generate money taking photos fairly quickly. I was sad to see months later the FS (For Sale) ads in this same forum.

The second rule for me is simple, necessity. When the dad goes to the TBall game with a 1D and 400mm 2.8 L, I know he is either showing off, or has no idea of the true capabilities of his equipment. Maybe he is mapping his kid's moles, and he is catching up during the game. I have gone through three 50mm lenses, currently on my third copy. When this one goes bad, I will definitely think of going to 1.4 or even the L version. It all comes down to need. Do I need it?... And if I just want it, can I afford it?... RULE OF THUMB: If you lock your camera bag outside the wife's view, or if your empty lens boxes are piling up at the very bottom of the closet with those old college shoes, then there might be an issue.

Personally, I have tried to stay away from buying a lot, with the logic of getting one piece of equipment, and then using it thoroughly before making another purchase (this to avoid having 5 lenses and not knowing them personally, how they work for me, which ones I favor, and which one to pull when the call comes in to go cover something).

In all reality -and quite honestly- 2006 alone is a year that saw me go from my world of film to Digital, and from the 10Ds to 20 and 30D. From Tamron and Canon, I transitioned to an almost full Sigma set (10-22,24-70,70-200,50-500) with nice aperture values (All from the Film versions of 'the Brand which must not be named' -oink oink-).

So much for theory, huh... But the truth is that I did not go over my budget, I made the money back, and I am pretty happy with the equipment.

Now I have finally been selected for some Police training, as part of a career move I have working on for quite some time. The Photography equipment will have to sit in a closet most of the time (except for the walkabout camera, 20D with the 24-70). Had I purchased all this stuff and still be in debt, I would be kicking my teeth and typing this very message at the same time.

Anyhow, did not mean to write such a lengthy 'quick' reply.

Congrats on your new gear, it looks like an awesome setup, and keep on posting pictures!!..

Cheers,

The Kingston 2GB 133Mb cards have a $20 rebate going, ending cost $44. I got 2 of them earlier this week. Not sure wht the Sandisk IV does to warrant nearly triple the price tag. 133x speed seems plenty.

You're getting a 1.4x and 2.0x TC? I feel for you. My 300mm doesn't seem like much for a tiny bird 60 feet off.

Yeah. You've got the fever. The new 50 so soon after getting the first one is a sure sign of it. You're wise to sleep on it before hitting send. :)

Good news is their return policy. You're only out some shipping costs if you get remorse later - or find that something doesn't work out.

$$$ are not an issue, but thanks for looking out for me, honestly. I think there are those who go into debt for this stuff, and for them, it is an issue. I am retired, great income, absolutely NO debt, nada, none. It is just a matter if I should buy it, as I spend more time posting than I do taking pictures, due to health issues.

I love my new hobby, and enjoy buying new stuff, but I wish I could get out more and practice. My back is pretty much destroyed and I live in constant pain. I wish there was someone in the Sacramento area who would want to go out with me and take pictures. Yes, that is an invitation. I will even drive, if you live close to Fair Oaks, I will pick you up in my Lexus LS430 and I'll buy the lunch.

If I had someone to go out with, I would motivate myself more than just sitting here in pain thinking how nice it would be to go out. Thanks Doc, if it wasn't for your post, I wouldn't have replied, and I wouldn't have discovered how much I'd like to go out with someone else to share taking pictures here. The idea just came to me as I began this post. Maybe it is like exercising, having company makes it better.

Any takers in Sacramento. I am a straight, happily married, 54 year old (today), retired fire fighter, slightly disabled male looking for a photography partner. I am a novice, but don't care if you are a pro or novice, there are sites out there to take pictures of together. I don't care if someone who wants to join me is male, female, straight, gay, whatever, just that they would like to go out and take some pictures and talk photography.

Anyone else out there shoot with a partner? How did it work out?

Thanks.

,

Thanks to you and all the others here for the advice! There sure are a lot of good people here on this Forum! For some reason, I haven't hit the purchase button yet. As I said, the money truly is not an issue, I won't go into that much, but believe me, I have been blessed when it comes to finances, and cursed when it comes to health. I think I have held off buying because I find myself just not shooting, but instead, talking about shooting and buying stuff. If I can get out more, I will buy these, and also a 300 IS without a doubt. My wife is fine with this as I used to spend about $500 a month on golf, country club fees and the bar and food bill, not including equipment, so photography seems cheap to her! I just bought the 7 Million Dollar bag, it came in last week, she saw it, wrapped it up and gave it back to me as my birthday present. lol She sees a constant stream of stuff coming in from BHphoto and Amazon and just laughs. What a wife!! :)

Joe
