I'm just curious... for all the money that I have invested in camera gear, I don't feel I get out and shoot as near as often as I should. For those that are also amateur shooters, how much do you get out and shoot?

Depends on how much spare time I've got really. I don't often go out with the sole intention of taking pictures, I just try and take my camera to places I'm going to anyway.

I am the same as Pete. My camera is always with me when i go biking or on any long drives for work, but i still try to get a good photo session in at least once a week.

Depends, last month I didn't do a single shoot and this month I've done two and have 3 more scheduled within the next week or so.

I've already decide that starting in April or May of next year I'll be taking a long weekend every month to take a short photo tips up into SW VA, WV, MD to get some more landscape work in.

I like to take some time a couple times a month and simply go somehwere near and look for thos interesting photo opportunites and do nothing else. It really takes the mind of daily life and one in awhile you get a good shot or two.

The more often your camera is with you, the easier it is to shoot.

That's part of the problem... it's hard to carry my gear with me as often as I would like to. Even with a body, and a wide plus a zoom lens, the weight and cumbersomeness adds up quickly. Now with a pair of bodies, and a large zoom, I find it hard to carry everything around. I also don't like to leave my gear unattended, even if it is just to leave it in my car to go eat lunch or something.

I found that once I got a backpack and a vest I am more inclined to take my gear along. Also, I "skinny down" my load. I don't really need to carry every lens I own all the time, so I'll take one or two in addition to the one on the camera.

One body one lens, thats all you need, heck take off the grip to make things even lighter. Carrying on lens might also make you look at things differently then you would if you had and entire bag of lens.

I travel about a bit and so with my little laptop and papers and 'stuff' adding the camera and 17-70mm is no extra weight so these days I take it with me most of the time. I shoot 2-3 times a week but not many actual exposures. Saturday or Sunday I go out for an hour or so. There is so much to shoot where I live that I always come back with a few keepers.

I'm not prolific, and I'm short of time during the days anyway. I guess I use my camera every few weeks, and I regularly go on little outings where I know I can take pictures.

But I spend a lot of time polishing stuff and recharging my batteries.

Daily. In addition to teaching full time, I have three part time photography-related jobs. Since September, I've been working 20 hour days with all the shooting and post-processing.

Poor baby! How do you do it? One or two 16-18 hour days is all I can muster before turning into mush.

Simple. I have two children to support.
