It would be a good sports camera. Hell, I've used the Nikon N65, and got good enough shots for the newspaper. 1 Fps can get you a lot, if you know what your shooting. When you shoot, just keep pressing down the shutter release half way to keep up with the focus. Should be fine. Theirs photographers I know that complain they have tooo many fps on the Mark III on the NFL sides, you tell me.

canon weight ;)

Well, since the OP posted this last December, we've now been introduced to the 40D, and I've had my 5D for about 18 months. In that time, I've shot with the 5D in numerous sporting events, and taken lots of animal action shots.

The 5D's 3fps may not have been slow in the days of film, but with the Mk III shooting bursts at 10fps, I'd been salivating for a 1D. The 40D may not be quite the match for the Mk III, but for my hobbyist budget, it's a great sports/action camera for the money, and it'll be my camera of choice for such occasions.

The guys on my local paper regularly use 5Ds for sport, football, rugby, cricket, tennis, shove ha'penny etc. If they can manage I'm sure the camera must be up to it.
