Two friends of mine are due to be married in February. They are both uk punk rockers. He has an enormous mohican and she is a beaut and very similar. Both smothered in tattoos. They have absolutely no money. They could not care less for photography on the day so there is no pressure. In fact I had to ask if I could do some shots for fun. They are happy to let me snap away and expect absolutely nothing, no photos, no pressure. I really like these guys and want to give them something to remember. I am not treading on any pro shooters toes because these guys are skint and would not pay for a photography service even if they did have money. I think you get my point.

There will be about 20 people attending and I wondered if any of you pro's had done a punk wedding and could seed any ideas for me. The fact they don't care a hoot makes me more determined to give them something they will like and actually want to keep. I have been told it will be a very slow paced and mellow affair.

Try different angles. Get up (on a chair, on a balcony), get down (on your knees, lying down - you get my point). It can create very nice effects.

Use the available light to create a moody situation. They may like low light photographs because of the dramatic effect. Discuss with them (don't hassle them if they don't care for photography though! ;))

[Not a pro] But... I'd say to definitely get a profile shot of the B&G, especially with that mohawk.

Google some images of Travis Barker for groom pics, and if the bride has any facial piercings or crazy hair, I'm sure those details will pop on their own, but I agree with the former post - Get some cool angles. Make sure you post your results!

The ability to capture the inner beauty of a soul is the essence of a true photographer. For anyone can capture outward adornment, but who can capture the inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God's sight?

Ya man that sounds like it would be a really fun shoot. I also agree with dramatic lighting.

You know what would blow their minds is if you came up with some really edgy stuff sort of like what you'd see in a punk band's CD liner notes. Use wild angles, and ultra wide closeups. And use heavy processing and even some grunge and crossprocessed techniques. They'll be stoked and you just may carve yourself out a little niche in contemporary wedding photography. Definately use the images in a portfolio!!!

This may be a good time with a fish eye lens and some close-ups as well. Definately work the odd angle, go high and low to create different perspectives. This sounds like fun!!!

Are you in the city? If so, some dirty, back alley stuff would probably fit. If they are into the alternative scene, they may even be willing to dirty up the clothes for the sake of the at. Or go the opposite way and take the shots in a very elegant hotel in town - playing with the dichotomy. This sounds like a really fun wedding!

What I would give to have been into photography & weddings 20yrs ago when nearly every kid was a punk:evil: the pictures would have been amazing ( well if I got the exposure right and the background nice and ........... ) Hmmm ok perhaps not:lol: .

As a domesticated punk rocker, I'd like to have a few of the more elegant, traditional wedding pictures. Punk rock is about contradictions, i.e. non conformity by conforming to a certain look. The contradiction would be very punk rock.

Yep I would love to have the classic vicar in his black robe and dog collar with the bride and a studded dog collar with all the stained glass and old establishment confronting the young and dont give a dam attitude BUT trying to conform and please the mums and dads. Would probably turn out very nice.

I'd also apply some heavy contrast, black and white images for the tattoo, or detailed shots of things unique about the couple.

I'd definitely practice your lighting on tattoos to get them to come out properly. Light in the wrong place will put a lot of reflection on them. I love the idea of a formal shot. Sell it to them right and they will probably have fun with it.

I haven't read the other suggestions but I was just in a similar situation. I say take a lot of candids. Use a telephoto lense so a lot of poeple won't know you're snapping their picture. It'll capture the atmosphere. I'm no wedding photographer either and I haven't had a chance to edit the pictures I took but I did manage to get a shot of the bride and groom holding the cake cutting knifes like they're about to viciously slughter it...it's quite the funny shot and I'm sure they will love it because it's not "typicall" and shows their spirit.
Good luck and I hope you post the pics!
