Sunset Reflections

Took this last night right after sunset. i've been sick this week, but looked out last night while feeding my dogs and the sky was amazing, so i roughed it and sneezed my way through a quick shoot. It was 5 shots of the same composition, merged on top of each other at varying levels of opacity to get rid of noise. i've always wanted to do this, just got the chance. first real time to use my new Manfrotto tripod and head. LOVED it.

I agree. Lovely colors and gives a calming, tranquil mood. I am also a sucker for sunset/rise shots, but aside from that good shot.

very nice... Did you say all the pics were exactly the same, or did you change settings at all in between? just curious, id like to try this layering technique, i always just apply most adjustments to the single layer. - PP nQQb i think.

Lovely scene and great composition. I do layer blends to fix exposure problems, but how does the layering you describe get rid of noise? I'll have to try it.

hello, and thanks for all the comments. from what i've read on a few threads, for what they're worth, i've heard that that the noise, or light signal, that's caused by each shot is at varying places in the images, and if the image is captured repeated times, from a locked position with no recomposition, the noise will be in different places each capture, and when layered, it reduces the noise if done right. one layer covers up the previous layer's noise, i guess it could be said. you do them at varying layers of opacity. i did this on this one. the originals were quite noisy, at 1600...then i flattened the images and ran through imagenomic noiseware in landscape mode, and this is the finished product.

exposure settings were :

F/14
shutter of 6seconds
focal length: 18mm
ISO: 1600
(i was using a circular polarizer, so had the iso up. tried it without the polarizer and it wasn't as vibrant in color, but was brighter of course.)
