Just got my G5 :)... but then I turned on the screen :(...

I just got my G5 today ... I was happy until I turned on the screen. Straight from the box there is a hot or dead pixel on the lcd screen . I would like to get it fixed but don't want to pay another $50+ to just get one pixel fixed...

Any suggestions? Will canon reimburse you for shipping? Would they charge me?

I wouldn't care soo much if they didn't reimburse me for shipping but I would like to know what you guys think.

*edit* just to make this clear, this is on the lcd screen, it doesn't effect the end quaility of the picture that you download to your computer *edit*

Actually I posted a topic similar to this one and if my computer wasn't geeking out, I could search for it.
Canon will not repair the dead pixel on the LCD, or any malfunctions with the LCD I believe. The warranty only covers dead pixels from the CCD. Something like that. Check out the warranty information.

I will be taking the camera to the chicago auto show tomorrow and will take many pictures. When I get back I will inspect them to see if the hot pixel shows up in any of the pictures.

Why not just take a few pics now, to see if it shows up? It won't, unless the wacky pixel is on the CCD, not just the LCD. If it was on the CCD, however, it would be too small of a defect to show up when the pic or scene was displayed on the LCD.

I did. I took some pictures in pitch black conditions and couldn't find anything.

Try it in movie mode. I had a G3 where pixel problems in the LCD were only visible on movies. IE it was a CCD problem, but only in certain modes...

I got back from the show and the hot pixel doesn't show up on any of the pictures.

If you just got it, why not return to the store and exchange it for one that works like it's supposed to?

I bought it from Tri-state off of ebay. I don't want to ship it all the way back to NY and have to wait another 2 weeks.

As someone already pointed out, send it back before it's too late. So what if you have to wait 2 weeks, why pay for a defective camera and have to look at that bad pixel for ten years. If you send it back immediatly, they'll know it's not something you did.

You have to admit, it's pretty amazing that they make a sensor with 5 million pixels, and so few are hot/dead.

even if 100 were dead, that's still 0.002%, or 99.998% good pixels

You can check if it's on the lcd or ccd by taking a pic, then going to preview and zooming in...if it goes away, it's the lcd.

I bought my g3 new off ebay with the warrenty card, I think it says you need a reciept from the store you bought it at. Can you still get it fixed for free without that..?

sorry...if it goes away after zooming in, then it's the CCD, not LCD.
