Yep, you can bet that will be Monday's headlines.

After debating the XTi or the 30d ... or whether to wait for the 30D to come out for over a month, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the 40D since, with double rebate (yes, I bought a pice of L glass also), it came down to right at a $1,000 WITH the kit lens (which I will gladly sell if anyone wishes to buy it).

Just a few years back, and right after I got my Digital Rebel (300), the XT hit the press. I don't regret my Rebel - it has served me well, so I assume I will love the 30D .... even when the 40D is announced next week.

I kind of feel that way after buying a 30D, but then I realized: the 30D is an outstanding camera, and I really don't need anything more unless I start shooting as a pro, and need a higher resolution (5D) style body for portraiture. The 30D is a great camera, and even if I became a full-time pro, it would be an outstanding backup body...more than capable of carrying quite a workload. Can't say my DRebel would have worked well for professional event photography, as switching settings on the fly wasn't exactly peachy. You'll love the 30D...so much more responsive and quick! The viewfinder is much better as well (you wouldn't have gotten that with the XTi)

I too took advantage of double rebates, picking up a 28 f/1.8 to bring my 30D body to $910 effectively. I originally bought the Sigma 30 f/1.4, but it had focus problems...then I realized I had the ability to get the 30D for cheap if I got the 28 instead (that too was a good choice...my 28 is excellent!)

Details please. I'm just about to pull the trigger myself. Where did you find it for $1000 with the kit lens?

Oktx,
the $1000 is AFTER the rebate. But after shopping the usual suspects, I bought from Amazon and with the kit lens as it barely changed the price [I don't need the lens, but when compared to body only, it was only a $30 premium]. Picked Amazon over folks like B&H to avoid shipping and sales tax.

INTERESTING - I bought today for $1199 pre-rebate. Just checked at Amazon to provid you folks the link and the price now is $1234. I guess I just saved $35!
