Is there a site (s) where you can see the data of each picture taken. I bought a couple of books, both said they gave the pictures 'recipe" but neither included the ISO and they didn't cover lots of different kinds of pictures. I'd love to see a large set of pictures, each of which would show the settings used for the picture, including f-stop, shutter speed, ISO, the available light, etc. I think I can learn a lot by seeing a bunch of these shots. Maybe, if there were tons of the pictures, I could get good enough to actually guess the setting without looking, and thus prepare me better for my shots. Make sens? Thanks in advance to anyone who has info where I can find these, hopefully on a web site for free.

Check out smugmug or other such sites. Click on the "exif" and you can see the info you're looking for. They have lots of different forums and communities so you can look at the types of photos you're interested in. Hope this helps.

I think I can learn a lot by seeing a bunch of these shots.

Your best bet is to experiment when shooting and then check these settings on your own pics. When shooting, try a few various settings for aperture and shutter speed. Shoot in Manual mode, and watch your exposure needle, and vary the shutter or aperture by a decent amount. Every time you change one you'll have to change the other to get the same exposure. If you wish to change both you may find that you have to set your ISO higher because you don't have enough light.

Be sure to shoot things like moving objects (even cars driving by or people waking or running) and try different shutter speeds. Shoot scenes with some near and distant objects and change aperture. This will show you Depth Of Field.

Shoot at different times of the day to see how the amount of available light limits what you can change. Get out an hour before sunset and shoot until a half hour past sunset. What your eyes think is sufficient light will not always be enough for the camera to do what you want.

When you get home, check out your pics and put 2 side-by-side and take note of the settings, and the changes in the pic. You'll quickly learn how aperture changes Depth Of Field, and how fast of a shutter speed you need to capture moving objects. When you want to control both you'll learn about the amount of light needed. You'll find that capturing a moving object with a lot of Depth Of Field requires a lot of light, or a higher ISO.

You'll learn a lot by shooting a hundred silly picture in 1.5 hours. You'll learn a lot more than spending many hours of peering over pics from others.

Honestly, you will.

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

I understand that works also, but I learn quicker by seeing and doing. We all learn at different levels and by different means. I learn some things quicker by reading, some things by doing, other things by watching, all dependent upon the task. And yes, I am shooting and learning also, thanks.

If you download a internet browser pluging (like Opanda Exif Viewer), you can just right click on any picture at all and get a window pop up with whatever exif data is in there. However, photos that are "save for web" will have their exif data removed.

A lot of Marauder61's shots are inspirational, & most shots in his gallery have the exif data listed:
