Had a couple of hours to kill while on a work trip to Central Oregon earlier this week. This was my first time to Smith Rock.

TD, those are great. Too bad about the sky, nothing you can do 'bout that. Crooked River is a beautiful area, desolate as it is. I've got to get over there... That river's pretty, um, crooked...

Thanks. Yeah, the sky was horrible. Had a sliver of sunlight teasing me. These shots are with the CP on.

I hope to get back there again and spend some decent time.

We'll probably sneak off after the thaw... I'd like to spend a long weekend at Sisters and go on a photographic walkabout...

Good idea.

I would like to make a trip back up to Detroit Dam sooner, though. There are some FABULOUS waterfalls right now. They're literally everywhere. It looks like we're going to get some freezing weather up there so they should be frozen soon.

I've never shot them, but would love to give it a shot.

Well, if you're in Sisters, you can breeze over to Detroit Dam, or over to Metolius, or Crooked River, Three Sisters, the whole she-bang.

That place is absolutely beautiful...in a desolate way...I'd forgotten how much it's beauty really struck me. Thanks for posting the photos TD

Thanks. It's no Lolagraphy, but I try.

I've got some more that I'll get to, but wanted to get these up.

Thanks again for the comments.

Lovely shots, with #1 being my favourite as it handles the sky better than the other two. What a great opportunity though to be able to take such photos on a work trip. For me getting there would be a holiday of a lifetime.

I recall the feeling of being startled by the rugged beauty at Smith Rock, mainly because it gets almost no publicity (except among climbers). The first photo is excellent. The sky is an important ingredient for such scenes.

Other than the sky, the second draws my attention the most.
I like how the river enters from the left frame and winds around the rock, than off through the center. Portrait orientation was a good choice for this shot.

Thank you all so much for your comments. I'm going to try processing some more shots and see if I can find a shot with sky not blown. Believe it or not, I had a CP on most of the time.

My fav is the first one with more coloring from the trees. Well composed and the rock looks majestic. Very nice.
