I have the Kata R-103, and i love it. But i've been buying lenses and other things, and i've outgrew it.

are the bigger kata bags, just as comfortable as that one? if not, what other bags are like the kata, just with more space?

thanks.

I've tried some larger Lowepro backpacks that will hold quite a bit more gear and don't prefer them in terms of comfort compared to the R-103. The Kata just feels right loaded up and carries the weight well. If you have a camera shop local to you, I'd go try on a bigger backpack with all your stuff and see what it feels like. That's the only way to know for sure.

You might also want to consider an additional shoulder bag or hard case to carry your gear.

I have the KAta R102 which is the same bag without the laptop slot. I have the same issue as I wanted to be able to carry more gear. I bought the Kata W-92, which attaches to the R-102 or the R103. It can also be removed and used as either a shoulder bag or as a waist bag.

Please excuse the dark area on the photo, but my 580EX was at work so I had to use the onboard flash. First time I have ever used that flash.

I can put my 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8, and my 580EX, plus assorted bits and bobs in the W-92, freeing up a great deal of space in the R-102.

Don't forget to look at the HB -205 or 207s. I would definately have a bigger KATA when I get more stuff than my 1043 will take. Doc's idea has merit too, very flexible! But lowepro nature and pro trekker AW IIs look pretty good too.

that w-92 looks like a great solution, few questions though:

is it big enough to fit a 70-200mm f/2.8 or a 24-70 f/2.8 in the main section, if so; can i use it to work out of at a wedding or something? because i usually take another empty shoulder bag that i keep one of those lenses in.

The 24-70 does, but not the 70-200.

the 70-200 does fit in the main compartment with all the dividers taken out, which is exactly what i wanted. but how do you connect this to the main bag?

The reason why I went with Kata for my equipment solution from the beginning is not just because they build super quality products, but because you can simply add your bags as your equipment grows. Here's what I mean:

Don't forget to scroll all the way down to look at the "complete system." I have two of these, backpack and torso. Will eventually connect them with the waist bag.

agreed. i connected them using the clips that come with the r103, but it kind of flops forward, then i noticed the extra connections that rklepper added, and it makes it more sttable.
