File sharing will work great for just that, sharing files. But you can't put a link in a file and have her see it. If you put something in a shared folder you would still have to tell her it was in there. Your best option still is to setup an IM on both pc's and have them running all times when your on. Or the kid thing or train a pet to take a note to her.

Just copy the link URL and paste it into a text document stored in the folder.

Dave's 'Kid thing', or a train sound more fun though :-)

Take your laptop with the link already open and flop it in front of her and say, "Here, check this out." :)

Or if you do get them to do anything, it costs you more than a pretty penny.

I see this discussion has been going on for a while. Has anyone suggested two tin cans and a string yet?

Thanks a lot everybody for the humor and the suggestions :). Actually, I had already thought of IM and we have done that before. It's just that the other day she didn't have it on and I thought that there should have been some other way since both computers are on the same network. I guess the IM is the best way. I will just stick it in the startup folder.

Just use the netsend command if she isn't on IM.

A great tool that will do this is Stickies (external link). It's a Sticky Note program that is network enabled. You could send her a stickky note from your PC that will pop up on here PC. I use this prog all the time (not for this though). Great little free util.

That netsend command sounds interesting. Where do I type it in?

If you're in windows xp, click on Start, then click on Run, type CMD into the prompt that comes up.

That will bring you up a little DOS window. Type the net send command into that window.

Save a shortcut on her desktop. Then go over an interrupt what she is doing and insist she looks at what you found interesting. Repeat/Do Often. :D
