heyya fellow photog's,

recently my point and shoot suffered a terrible accident, and unfortunately it didnt survive.
now since the holidays are around, i should have some free time away from school, and i would like to start shooting again. however, shooting without a camera could prove to be a challenge.

i am looking into the Canon Digital Rebel XTi from costco with the kit 18-55 kit lense. last i checked it was around $799.
i know costco has a pretty good return policy, probably the best out there, but the cost is usually slightly higher... not to mention the XTi's they have there are silver (according to their online store).

anyhow, im pretty sure i cant go wrong buying my DSLR from them... but im wondering if there were any better priced XTi's out there?

thanks

ive heard of people buying DSLRs from costco..... but if they only have silver that would kill it for me anyway.
B&H has the black kit for $759 (silver for $734). and unless you live in new york you wont have to pay tax from there.

thanks for the link billginthekeys,

the only thing thats really holding me back is return policy with online stores, it just seems like a hassle to me in the event that something goes wrong with the camera.

B&H has a decent return policy. Of course there's the hassle of shipping should it be necessary, but always buy from B&H with confidence.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

And Costco has a great return policy that lives way beyond the manufacturer's - if something goes wrong they exchange the item. That's worth thinking about.

Got all my Rebel XT gear (Kit and 75-300) from Costco.com, no issues, even had it shipped to my vacation location last year and then also avoided sales tax too ;)

I just picked up a black XTi yesterday from Costco. I've heard too many really positive stories about their very generous return policy so they got my business.

BTW, I am the rare beast that upgraded from a XT to a XTi and am having all kinds of fun doing side by side comparisons.

I'd buy from Costco in a heartbeat, however I haven't seen any current model Canon DSLR's in Canada yet (or any DSLR's for that matter).

I actually just stopped there to take a look at one. I was intending to buy one online from B&H for 699 body only. When I asked the guy of they carried the black, he said he'd check to see if any were left. He had two so I went for the kit. My son is getting my old XT so I had the opertunity to play with both the 30 and XTi and I still like the feel of the XTi better.

Get a black XT with a decent lens from B&H. The Tamron 17-50 is an excellent one as is the Sigma 17-70.

got mine there as well. $799 and its black. they have both colors available at that price. you cant beat their satisfaction guarantee. I've returned everything from a half eaten melon to a two year old T.V. set. if you are dissatisfied with the product they take it back almost without exception. that's why 9 times out of 10 if they don't have it I don't buy it. Downside is the limited selection. I love the choices at stores like B&H but you try returning a lens there that conks out a year or so after you bought it and see what happens.

I bought from Costco, too. When the silver disk on the mode dial on my XT fell off, they cheerfully gave me a new camera. Canon wanted me to send it in and replace the entire top. I've returned an ipod twice and each time it got upgraded because of the improvements ipod has made. If you live close to a Costco, it cannot be beat, even by B&H.
