I'm not quite sure how to post - this is my first attempt. I moved from the bench to the stands so I could get some photos of my son. Here is a recent attempt (not my son! ;)). This image has no PP. Looking for PP ideas and C&C always welcome.

Great timing and a nice crisp shot. I would have liked to see it shot and cropped much tighter. It would bring the intensity way up. Everything else looks wonderful to me. Looked like a nice painful hit!

Nice timing, but a tighter crop would help. This is very good for not having any PP. Care to share the setup??

Very nice shot! It looks like a well lit rink. What is the source of lighting that is causing those shadows?

Nice shot, as previously stated cropping a bit tighter may help focus on the hit.
Looks to me like an outdoor rink, given the guys on the bench wearing jackets and gloves. In that case it must have been difficult skating sunward, from the shadows the sun must be quite low.

As I mentioned, I'm new to this - until this year I was one of the guys on the bench wearing a hat and gloves. This is our local hockey rink - refrigerated but outdoors. Yes, skating sunward is a challenge and the choice of home vs. away takes on new meaning ;)

I welcome advice on PP:

I am fairly new to the forum as well, what I have picked up on PP is shown below. Hope this is easy to understand.

Welcome to these forums. It's a pretty good picture, but because the ice is 'white', it fools the camera's light meter into underexposing. You lost a few of the details in the shadows, the black parts of their uniforms.

I used the shadows/highlights function in photoshop to get some of these details back, and then the levels to make the picture brighter. Here it is:

You can experiment with the "exposure compensation" function to try and eliminate this problem. Apart for that and the crop that people have suggested, nice photo.

Also, nice kit. :)

Not sure but I think that is an outdoor rink.

I agree with the action cropping.

You are also lucky to have caught action with a "built-in" title......." Feaster gets knocked on his keister".

 - I like that caption!

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm working out how to organize and edit my photos. I'm learning how to properly expose images when there is so much white. This site is a wealth of information.

And yes, it is an outdoor rink: http://www.sheridanice.org (external link)

There is a webcam link.

Happy Holidays,
Dan
