I've been itching to go out and shoot from a while now.. we finally found the time today to make a 2 hour drive upto Portland in Maine. This is one of the more famous lighthouses in the city. It was mostly a fully overcast day so not much color in the sky either.. You can also see a second lighthouse in the background- better visible in the larger image.

Very atmospheric Daman. Can I assume that you've tweaked the midtones to give it an "after-dark" appearance, or was it truly dark by the time you arrived there?

Thanks John! It was after sundown that we arrived there,so the actual scene was how it shows, it was pretty dark and some very similar shots i took after 10 minutes of this started crapping out with excessive noise in the sky due to the long exposures. This shot was at ISO 50 at 20 or maybe 30 seconds.

In fact i tried to open it up a bit but it was taking away the mood so left it like it is.

Interesting shot. I was just there this weekend. Maybe I should have hung around and tried a similar shot. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks Klibble, hope to see more shots from you in future here.

Hey Dimitri- I forgot to add this.. I remembered that pointer you gave me about zooming in a teeny bit and I used it this time around :) It seems to have compensated for the edge softness, thanks again!

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p
