I think a dead guy in teh background would give off a "this car is drop dead gorgeous" kind of symbolism to the picture. I wouldn't remove him.

easton chang does wonderful work btw. I just saw an NSX set he did earlier in the day

Additionally, I'd like to see some shots of the car itself moving, as well as some that appear to be taken from a position other than standing up straight.

Now that's something i can take away from this, finally. I agree, i wanted moving shots... i tried to get a friend with a wagon to come along, no dice, i have no rigging either. I'm going to attempt my own rig.

great shots mumbles. i love the backgrounds and the contrast of the car. i also like the composition because it really differentiate the pics from the million of regular car shots that are all over the net.

ohsnap- why are you still arguing over this? you said what you think so what is the point on dragging this? i think that all he wanted was an example of what you mean (an image) which shouldn't be too hard to provide. constructive criticism is great but it has to be constructive. saying "the car looks like a toy" 100 times will not help the person get better (i know that you did mention getting low which would only make the effect worse)

OK, so after all this discussion I went back and carefully went over the shots again to see if I could better explain what it was that wasn't working for me. I realized something: the car's really clean. I mean super clean and shiny. It's reflecting so much in fact that (to me) the car reflects too much of its surroundings. I did change my mind about #1, I like it, but found myself wishing the windows weren't reflecting so much. The other shots still don't seem to make the car pop enough, maybe because the paint reflects the environment so much. I'm not sure if a CP would fix those, but I think it might help.

And to blonde: I was repeatedly asked by ol' mumbles for clarification. Wouldn't you respond if someone asked you for more?

Finally, what kind of rig are you guys talking about? Some way to affix the camera to the window frame of a moving car so it's mounted low and outside? I'd love to see pictures of such a setup so I can get some ideas to make my own.

Not everyone will like all of anyone's photos.

That's true, especially with the 80,000+ members we have. Still, "Do you have an example of a shot you've personally taken where the shots don't clash with the background? I'm just trying to understand what you mean." is a reasonable request? Not liking something is easy. Showing an example that you hold to be excellent shouldn't be all that hard? Images are what we're about here, & a link to someone else's shot would work, too.

Understood, and it certainly is a reasonable request, but that doesn't mean I necessarily know of such a shot, nor that I should spend my time hunting around for a photo on the internet so I can say "See? Do one of these." to someone who's trying to create unique images.

Anyway, I have complimented the author of the post on his goal of creating unique images, which he has succeeded in. The debate was about style, I was just throwing in my 2 cents and got caught up in having to prove my case. My more technical recommendation of using a fill flash on the model was ignored.
