one with flash metering and spot metering built in will give you the most to grow into.

If it won't meter flash or a one degree angle, you may be wanting to upgrade later.

hope it helps.

The Sekonic L-358 has to be the most popular meter among the folks on the forum here.

If you have the funds, the new L-758DR is the one to get. I may upgrade to the 758 in the not-too-distant future.

I have the Sekonic L-358 and love it. If you want spot metering you might consider one of the higher models becasue I believe they (L-558 and L-758 ) have the spot metering built in or come with the attachment, whereas the L-358 offers the spot metering attachment as an option that, last I checked was $125.

I just got the 758. It is extremely nice and the USB connection to your pc for importing exporting settings and the new camera sensor profies. I am still leanring everything this bad boy can do. But I would definatley spedn the extra $ on it if you can because you will not have to upgrade at any time in the near future.

thanks everyone for replying.

the 758 looks great but may be more than i need for some time, and certainly not within my budget right now. the 358 looks like it would be right for what i would need and with features i could take advantage of in time.

robert, where did you see the 358's for $125? i did a search on pricegrabber and the lowest i found was $237. it wasn't those shady NYC dealers, was it? ;)

The $125 he spoke of was for the spot meter finder attachment, not the basic meter.
