Yep, I did it again, a picture with no running water in it :|

This is the Union Building in Pretoria as seen from our hotel room. I wasn't going to bother with pictures as we stopped only one night on the way back to Johannesburg, but the sky just screamed "TAKE ME!".

5D, 17-40, CPL, 1stop GND.

What a great view from your hotel - you would make Olli (I shoot everything from a hotel balcony) proud. ;)

How many photos did you take on your holiday then, and did you have a pile of cards, or upload to a laptop/storage device?

Not including the photos I seemed to have backed up twice, about 2500.... :| All RAW and 95% with the 5D. I bought a Vosonic 60GB hard drive backup before I went....and very glad I did. In the end I used around 38 GB.
I am still sifting through but most of the pics are now online in my Flickr account - see link - from 2500 down to 100 or so....maybe I am just picky? :) (or maybe I just rushed too many animal shots?).

That's some self control on the editing Neil, I love the ones you have posted (I've said before!) If it was me I would end up with 2499 post-edit probably! :)

That would look awesome in B&W I think if you played with the contrast... fluffy clouds do wonders for B&W.
Nice colours though... I was born in SA.. I don't remember much of Pretoria, just that we had to drive there in the wee hours of the morning to get the visas sorted for Australia. I was 4 years old I think.

Well, when things like leopards and lions appear you tend not to take your finger off the shutter button, which can give some pretty appalling results! :) Sometimes you take a few a realise they were too slow or you were using the wrong AF, so that cuts things dow a bit. I am also looking at sharpness of the images, the slightly off ones will be kept, memories, but not processed if I have a similar image which is sharper. But yeh, it is hard not to just process the lot, certainly keeps me indoors at the moment - lot of time spent on them. :)

Lovely tones of color there Neil, the sky and the greens and reds make the shot very vivid.

Alot of sharp detail and color that makes this shot really pop, keeps the eyes busy.
Very nice indeed.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

I had the tap running in the bathroom, otherwise the camera won't turn on :) Cheers Dimitri.

Thankyou, the sky decided it but then a murky sun came through andbrihtened up the fg a bit.

It is quite a place, I would love to spend more time there and in Africa generally. But, one has to work to pay for the two or three weeks a year off :(

Yes it was, quite a view from the hotel, we were lucky. But we did drive through Pretoria to get to Jburg Airport....all I can say is, that is the only impressive building in Pretoria :)

Cheers guys.
