Hello, im new to this website. I have 2 problems and I kinda need an opinion.
1. I have a Canon Rebel thats the grey color, and I kinda wanted a battery pak but i dont know if that will look wierd with the grey body. I know its kinda a stupid question but I just want to know what yall think.

2. I want a FISHEYE lens soooooooooooo bad but I cant find one thats great and that doesnt distort the entire picture for a reasonable price. I am 14 years old and money doesnt grow on trees.

Please get back to me if you can help or give me your opinion.

The battery grip, you mean? Looks fine to me - the functionality of the pack will far outweigh its aesthetic value or lack thereof ;)

Canon 15mm 2.8 fish won't distort the entire picture (by this do you mean circular fisheye?) though it can be a little pricey if you don't have much cash...

first of all, welcome to POTN. Photography shouldn't be about looks, therefore a silver dReb with a black battery grip will work just fine, but in reality, it looks pretty decent as well, there are some pics around here somewhere, with a bit of digging you might be able to find one.

you say you want a fisheye but you don't want it to distort the whole picture, that's what fishies do. the Peleng 8mm fisheye is about 200 bucks and it's pretty great, a major downside could be that it's manual focus and aperature, but most people don't seem to have a problem with that. tokina has a 10-17 fisheye zoom, but it's about 550, the canon 15mm fisheye is a tad more than that. What is a reasonable price for you? let us know what you're willing to spend and we can help you more.

tried the zenitar fisheye? that would fall right into your price range, its a 16mm rectolinear fisheye, you still get a rectangular image, just REALLY wide. then theres the peling 8mm fisheye, dont remember its price but it should be sub-$300

Battery grip looks fine and won't look weird. Anyone who says it does will feel the wrath of this community blah blah blah. :) If you find good deals on the grip - maybe even non-Canon grip (quality varies), you can squeeze in the grip, the Zenitar, and the 2 batts needed for the grip (get sterlingtek) + shipping while remaining inside your budget.

Btw, the peleng will distort like mad even on a XT (they're supposed to). Go here (external link) for a review and pics of it.
Zenitar will also distort, but it will cover all of your sensor without the vignetting corners.
If you're looking for non-distorting wide rectiliniar lenses, the widest and best you have is probably your kit lens if you already own it. Otherwise, it'll probably be the Sigma 20 or 24mm prime.

Zenitar for Canon can be found for new $155+20 ship on e-bay, but make sure it's a reputable dealer. Adorama has a Excellent+ cond used for $199.

One VERY important thing to remember is that these Russian lenses are FULL manual, meaning no focus confirmation from your camera. In fact, it won't recognize a lens as being attached! So if that's what you want to do, be prepared for tackling a learning curve as well as lots of out of focus pics in the beginning. Merry Christmas. :D

Here was my DRebel with the grip...served me well for quite some time, and I thought it looked fine. Not as good as all black, but not bad.

Welcome, IndyColt. Can we take it that "in a state" equates to a certain place in the midwest? ;)

As others said, don't worry about looks. A pro in Iraq isn't going to be terribly worried about the scratches on his body--at least, not the camera body!

In fact, there's a lot to be said for looking ugly because it discourages theft. Somebody looking for a quick buck won't grab your battered 1D when there's a shiny Rebel to be had; they're not smart enough to know the difference and they think the pawn shop will like the shiny one better.

BTW, congrats on having enough money at 14 to spend on good camera equipment. You get points for that...

Geoff
All I want is a 10-2000 f/0.5L with no distortion that weighs 100 grams, fits in my pocket, and costs $300. Is that too much to ask?
