I just rec'd a call from a b&g that bought the high res images on a cd from me. There is NOTHING on the cd with my name or copyright on it. They are receiveing trouble from labs trying to get them printed. Many of the clerks will not allow them to print saying this is from a professional and copyrighted. But its not..
Has anyone ever had trouble with this? If so how did you help your clients deal with this?
Thanks for any feed back.

Never heard of this before, but it might be a good idea to find out which lab the B&G are using and ring the lab up to tell them that you are the photog. Hopefully that should clear the air.

Write a print release saying you give the couple permission to print the photos. Make sure to print it on your studio letter head and include your phone number and contact info. Also make sure to date, and sign. The couple can bring that with them when they go to print, and if the lab has any problems they can just call you.

Hope that helps.

I've heard of this - Walmart especially is bad about not allowing prints that look professional, even if you are the photographer. It covers their year for copyright and I'd rather have that than anything else. I never release a CD without a written, signed release that specifies that the b&g can make prints.

You have to give the couple a release form to take to the store with them that states that they are allowed ot have these pictures printed.
Stores do this for legal reasons. If it looks like a professional photograph you need a release or sign a form stating that you took the pics yourself.. that free's them from any legal issues

I put a .txt in all of my photo CD's for clients that names me as the photag, releases permission to print specifically to the owner (i.e. people in the photo), and states that I keep my copyright. It also has my website, phone and other contact info. Even if you're not a pro this should fix any problems they might have. HTH.

You have to give everyone a letter on letterhead giving them permission to print images from the CD, like Jacob said.

I have heard several stories about Walgreens not allowing prints unless they have some sort of release or permission from the photographer. so you need to give them some sort of letter or .txt file on the CD

Thank you all for your input. I will now make it a standard policy to include a release letter with any cd images I sell.
Happy Holidays to everyone :)
