I am searching for a bag to hold all my gear. I do not hike a lot only on occasion and will gte a small bag for that. But I need a case to carry my equipment around to onsite locations and to races etc.

Here is what I want to carry in it:
1dm2kn
memory card holder
300mm f2.8
70-200 f2.8
16-35L
24-70L
580ex flash
light meter
remote and other varios small accessories.

I do not want to travel with the body attached to the 300mm lens as most backpacks seem to suggest.

I was looking at the lowepro pro trekker or lowepro super trekker(seems to be made for film gear though). Problem I have witht hese to bags is it seems to be one long compartment in the middle that can not be devided?

I then was looking at a pelican 1614

But I can not tell if it is two layered so the 300mm f2.8 will not go through to the bottom of the case.

What are you guys using?

The lowepro backpacks (and from most manufactures) have many movable dividers, so you can get whatever confirguration you want. However, if you go to the lowepro website you will see that the depth of all of their backpacks is 6.0". This is not quite tall enoug to fit your 1DmkIIN, particularily if you use a quick release plate on your camera. Also your 300 f2.8 is a large diamter lens, but I do not off hand recall the OD of the hood.
Think Tank has several backpack designs of various sizes that will easily hold your gear, and provide room for further lens (and body) growth. there designs are really well thought out, their bags are deeper than most, and their construction isvery good. Many of their configuration pictures show a 300 f2.8 or larger lens.

The Super Trekker is 6.5 inches deap. I am leaning towards a Pelican 1610/1614 now. The Super Trekker just seems like a HUGE backpack and would be real cumbersome to use. I may be wrong. I wish i had a decent shop around here I could look at these things..

The super trekker is indeed huge, and well beyond the legal airline limits of 22x14x9"

I've just managed to get hold of a Crinkler Brian's Hot Tub for my kit. Fairly similar set up to you, although I have an extra body and 1 less lens in there.

I also have a 550 flash in mine as well, 4 batteries and a rocket blower.

All this fits in the main compartment, with the outer compartments taking raincovers, towels etc. There is room for a laptop in there.

Am mightily impressed with it - spreads the load well and looks to be pretty hard wearing too.

Will try and post a few pics later today so you can see the config.
