I am heading to Cuba in March fopr a week and staying in Valadaro about 30 minutes from Havana. Does anyone have suggestions of sights that I should be looking for to tak some nice pictures? I know the locals will provide great subjects but I am more thinking of beaches mountains and what not. Kind of secret stuff the brouchers don;t tell you about that some of you may have found when traveling there.

Thanks

Andrew

I've been to Cuba once, and my dad has been there over 10 times. Varadero is beautiful, nice long sandy beaches. But it's really touristy and just hotels from what I saw of it. The real photographic opportunities are in Havana. Areas like Old Havana offer a lot of interesting photographic subjects. Particularly around the old Cathedral in Old Havana. Lots of interesting people around, and narrow streets, interesting buildings.

As for secret stuff, I didn't spend a lot of time in Varadero, just one day. I didn't get to walk around all that much. But my impression was that it isn't much different from a lot of other beach resorts that I've been to. Doesn't really interest me as far as photography is concerned.

Cuba is another one of those countries you have to go off the beaten path....

Oops, just noticed you said Valadaro not Varadero.... reading too fast. I'm not too sure about that area, but as I mentioned you really do have to spend some time in old Havana, it is well worth the time.

I'll have a conversation with my dad to see what he has to say about the area and get back to you.
