I believe they try to deliver three times total. You can always call up your local Fedex Air Office and have them hold it at their location for you to pick up on Friday. Just give them your tracking number and they'll hold it, no problem.

Oops...then again, that is the USA policy. If you are in Egypt, I don't know. :(

I'm pretty sure they make 3 delivery attempts. If you have the tracking number of the shipment, you can call FedEx (the number's on their web site) and talk to them about scheduling for after you get there.

a camera, some lenses, various paraphernalia...

Wow. You're flying from Egypt to Atlanta for 2 days? I live in Atlanta and it sometimes takes 2 days to get through ATL airport

Yikes!!! That’s is one busy schedule. Anyway, I send stuff overseas to my daughter several times a year using FedEx. It may not be the same in all countries, but she calls her local office and requests a later delivery date and they have always complied. Might want to give them a call.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Are you sure about this... I tried doing exactly that a week ago and was shut down by FedEx.

I was told they need to attempt delivery at least once prior to changing to hold for pickup because technically its still "the shipper's" package until the first delivery attempt.

That's the only way I've ever done it too..

I posted this in another thread, but it's probably more relevant here. FedEx will make three attempts to deliver, and then hold the package for 10 additional days before returning it to the sender. Generally, you can call them and make arrangements for them to hold a package before they attempt to deliver it. Anyway, here's my story...

FedEx is currently on my list (not the good one). I paid for 2nd-day air on the 50L, and it was right on schedule all the way to Palm Springs. On the appointed day, tracking info. said it was 'out for delivery'. I waited around all day. By 11:00pm, I gave up hope of seeing the lens and started thinking about going to bed. I decided to watch the 11:00 news, and as soon as I sat down, I heard a truck outside. I walked out onto the porch, and saw the tail lights of a FedEx truck pulling away. There was no package, but a door tag instead showing 'attempted delivery at 11:00pm'. The bozo hadn't even rung the doorbell.

Day 2 (Friday): I called FedEx in the morning, and grumbled about the previous days' events. The nice lady assured me the package was on the truck and they would 'attempt' delivery again that day. This was almost a carbon copy of the day before. The driver came a little after 11:00pm, didn't ring the doorbell, left a door tag, and escaped once again with my lens. I was still up.

Day 3. Saturday morning, I called FedEx at 6:00am, and I was steamed. I told them I wanted the package held at their terminal in Palm Springs so I could pick it up during the day. Unfortunately, the person I spoke to was in the Philippines, and wasn't able to call them directly because the local office didn't open till 9:00am on Saturday. I called back at 9:00, and was told that the package was already on the truck and out for delivery.

Grrrrrr.

The driver made his ‘third attempt’ to deliver it around 5:00 Saturday afternoon. Fortunately, we were home, although we hadn’t been earlier. For some reason, B&H shipped the lens with the requirement that someone at the address be there to sign for it. Otherwise, I would have signed the door tag from the preceding day, and have it left on the porch. I’ve done that before with considerably more valuable items, and would’ve been very comfortable doing so.

On the other hand, it could be worse. DHL lost my brother-in-law’s passport two days before he was supposed to leave for Brazil. Classy outfit.

I was going to say, at least it wasn't DHL. Wouldn't ship anything with those clowns. Your story sounded like the UPS drivers here. Fedex is usually better than that.

If I really care when it gets there, I ship Fedex
If I don't care when it gets there I ship UPS
If I don't care if it gets there I ship DHL
If I just don't care, I ship USPS

In fairness, I should say that I've had consistently good luck with FedEx. I ship a lot of very important paperwork with them, and they've never lost anything. This was a fluke, I'm sure, but it was also educational. I learned a bit about how they do things.
