Kelly Slater taking a break and free surfing at Sebastian Inlet. He was home surfing in his brother Sean's surf contest. He had to leave shortly after in order to surf in another ASP Contest at Pipeline in Hawaii.

Thanks Mike. It is possible going to be used by the main FCS company that supplies Kelly his fins for his boards. They have notified me about that very shot.

Yeah, shot 2 is really nice. I like seeing all the spray suspended in mid air. What camera/lense did you use for these shots?

These were all shot with the canon 20d and the sigma bigma, 50-500mm lens. All free hand, I hate shooting surfing pics with a tripod and haven't gotten a mono yet.

Great shots Don and congrats on the FCS deal. I have been enjoying your pictures for a while on the "Light" forum. I look forward to seeing more.

How hard is it to get a good spot to shoot from during the contest at Sebastian? Do you have to have a press pass or can you just show up? I've seen a few shot in the past of the photographers lineup at different contest there an always wondered what the rules were.

That second shot is awesome. Make sure FCS doesn't stiff you on the price. Suf companies are notorious for trying to get photogs to give them photos for next to nothing. FCS can afford to pay top dollar for image use.

Hey Islandtime, it is not hard at all and you don't need any special press pass. When I took these of Kelly he and his other brother Steven came down to the area that myself and another photog were shooting. Kelly is a very laid back person. I spoke with him for a little while then he went out to free surf. It was funny to watch all the 600mm canon big boy's come to the area we were at real fast to shoot Kelly.

I haven't seen the latest issue, but I believe the shot I took of Kelly in the contest pic was used in ESM magazine and a few local papers in or around Brevard county, Fl.
