I've been by this spot several times on different road trips, and pulled over to take a photo twice, a few years apart. The first time I didn't really know what I was doing; I was just overwhelmed with the scene. The second time, thankfully, I had figured out the basics.

This is from a Canon D60 ( which is ancient by now ) and a 16-35 L. Tripod mounted, mirror lockup and a cable release, all that. There was enough light to hand-hold the exposure, but I find using a tripod slows me down, and lets me make very subtle changes to the composition until it's perfect.

Very nice, and although I don't mind your sig too much ;), it is a shame that it is over theroad which would otherwise provide a bit of lead-in to the hills in the background. I think that it would have looked better on the left-hand side of this photo.

PS Welcome to the forums. :)

Nice shot Forrest. Maybe a tad smaller on the copyright too.

Thanks, everyone!

Sorry about the copyright notice. Somebody stole a few of my photos a while ago, put them on their myspace page, and claimed to have shot them. I'm honored that anybody would like my photos enough to want to keep a copy, but taking credit for them really got to me. So I've been watermarking them ever since ... although lately I've been trying to make the stamp a little less garish.

Very nice! Looks like South Park, driving west towards Jefferson, off Kenosha Pass.
Love the curve of the road, nice touch. Brings depth to the photo.

Nice shot. I know where you took it - I have been tempted to pull over, just never did:cry:. Do you live in CO?

Welcome to the forum, Forrest. That is a dynamite photo you posted. I love the composition, the color and that wonderful Colorado sky. If you travel a lot, you and I probably have a lot in common.

Poor place for your sig, right over the point of interest! Can't let that take away from this nice image. Well exposed and I generally like the comp, good colors. I'd like to see it cropped more panorama-like, there's a little too much sky for my liking and I think doing this would focus our eyes even more on the curve of the road. Thanks for sharing.
