I've had my camera 8 months but have only printed a few, and those were before I started shooting RAW. I called one of my local camera stores to ask about the process online and they told me I could send them the tiff and they would print from that. The only problem is I like 5x7 prints and they want $2.00 each. I went to walgreens.com and saw that their 5x7 prints were $.58 each so I thought I'd try a few prints to see the results but the site apparently only takes jpeg. Will printing from a jpeg instead of a tiff make much difference in a print? I used Walgreens for a number of years when they would send my film out for Kodak premium processing and liked the results but when that option ended I did not use them much. These are vacation photos so if I don't like the results I'll try again somewhere else but I'd rather not have to do that since I want to print about 80 shots . Any suggestions. Thank you.

Thanks. I was thinking of trying MPIX but my wife would like to have our Jamaica shots to show her family on Christmas. Mabe I should just do these in 4x6, which is cheap, and then have the 5x7 prints done online. I'm still curious about the difference between the jpeg and the tiff.

Our Walgreens sucks! Try using www.mpix.com (external link). They're very reasonable and actually turn out a decent product.

No. When you convert to jpeg just specify High quality/low compression.

Color? It's all relative...

I've printed 30x20" from a Q12 JPG and it looks great. TIFF is unnecessary, especially for small prints.

As long as the jpeg image is around 300 dpi there shouldn't be any difference between that and a tiff image in small prints, also as a rule (for me) I always submit larger size image so when it is compressed into a smaller size it will sharpen it slightly. example: if you want say 2.5x3.5 wallet I would submit as a 5x7 at 300 dpi. Also note that it makes a difference if the image is developed chemically or if it is done using a high quality printer, high quality printers are only capable of around 175 dpi (+ or -) so processing as a photo and not a photo quality print is always best.

I've printed 12X18" prints from 300ppi jpgs because the $500,000 printers prefer that format. But, Walgreens has never given me consistent quality.
