I'm leaving this weekend for 3 weeks traveling thru Europe by rail and will be taking a 30D, 10-22, 17-55, 580EX. (possibly a 85 1.8 also)

I currently have a Slingshot 200.

Am I better off bringing the Slingshot or buying a shoulder bag?

Dunno if it is that important. Travelling in Europe is same as anywhere so your experience of using your current bag should tell you if it is suitable. One thing to remember is to ensure there is room for the essential carry around stuff to be stored secure, like passport, money, keys, whatever. The Slingshots are pretty practical bags I think.

Check the airline carry-on size restrictions - they're different in the EU than in the rest of the world - smaller. IIRC, it's about 17x10x8 max. dimensions. After all, you dowant to be able to get your gear there.

Make sure it's waterproof - it's very wet over here at the moment!

Make sure its bright orange for the UK - it's foggy here still!

Best to check with the airlines for the latest rules etc.

I prefer the shoulder bags and use a Crumpler 7MDH (million dollar home) which is very nice.

I like my Orion Trekker II for travelling.
Holds my 30D with 24-70 2.8L mounted, 50mm 1.4, (still room for one or two more lenses), batteries & charger, filters, blowers, memory, and has room for travel documents, a spare T-shirt, or hat & gloves etc.
It's also relatively cheap compared with some camera bags out there.
The backpack style means you can wander around with it on comfortably all day, better that putting the weight on one shoulder in my opinion.
This site has some sample shots...

Edited: been on lots of UK and international flights with it too. Although a lot of folkd are getting away with bigger hand luggage.

I'd say that something not too conspicuous would be best.

That is another plus point of the Orion Trekker II - it just looks like any old day-sac when on.
