Hi all, I'm going to a game here in Australia tonight. My question is . .. . .... is i t worth taking my 400D armed only with my 75-300mm f4 - f 5.6? if so what set up would you recommend? I'll be a few rows back, hopefully no more than 15.
Fairly well lit stadium. Any ideas? on slowest speed, ISO, RAW or JPeg, anything else? I wont be usin a flash of course. Love to hear any feedback!

Can't hurt to bring it. Definitely RAW and the highest ISO you can stand the noise at... If it doesn't work out, no real loss, at least you'll know.

check if it's even legal to bring a camera. since you're 15 rows back, you certainly don't have press creds, and it sounds like it's a fairly large thing, it may be better just to sit back and enjoy the game. personally, if i can't get on the floor/sideline/in the way for a game/game/any event, i'll just not take my camera and enjoy the time

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Seen plenty of camera's there b4, just no flashes allowed, it's hard to enjoy the way my team is going! hehe. It's a 5000 seat stadium by the way.

I'd google the arena for their official rules regarding cameras. Some facilities are very specific, i.e. "No lenses longer than 200MM." Other might just say "No 'professional' cameras."

I was at an arena that had a six inch rule. Then the door person told me to go to another door. I had no issues at the other door.

High ISO in TV mode. is that correct?

Hi all, just returned from the game, results were average. Used ISO 800 and 1600, speed 325 - 400 in TV mode. only problem is excessive noise. Here is one pic with as much noise reduced as I can, but I have forfeited a lot of detail to acheive it. I probably wouldn't take it again until I had the appropriate lens. I'll scour through my shots in the coming days to see if any are ok to post.

The image before noise reduction is shocking. I thought the 400D was great at High ISO?

f/5.6 is doable in a well lit arena. Here's one I pulled off a year ago at f/5.6 ISO 3200 with the 20D + 300/4L IS, no flash or strobes.
