Think the only problem with these is they do not carry any electronic connections to the lens which then means you are shooting with the aperture wide open all the time or if you stop down the lens first by atttching directly to the camera pre-setting an aperture pressing the DOF preview button and then removing the lens (whilst keeping the dof preview button depressed) you will have a fairly dim viewfinder.

Just to say you can get excellent shots with manual ext tubes they are just a bit of a pain to use. I used some for a while with an old pentax 50mm but that had one slight advantage that the aperture was manual so I could adjust the aperture easily.

Sorry, but I don't really see the point in extension tube sets like this... you lose your aperture control which is essential in macro photography.

Personally I would have gone for an M42 extension tube set and a decent M42 50mm lens with M42-EOS adapter. Would probably cost about the same too. The only downside is when you stop down it gets darker (permanent DOF preview), but from experience it's not too much of a hinderance. I generally prefer that combo to the Kenko tubes and EF 50mm f/1.8 so I don't have to hold down the DOF preview button.

That was US$40... still cheap, you just need to know where to look. That's all I paid for mine. Try pawn shops because they generally don't have a clue what they are selling which generally works to your advantage if it's a 70s vintage piece of equipment.

photobiz- No worries. Ive got a heap of manual lenses here, ill just grab an adapter later on :) The tubes were $40 aus :)

Got them, they are great :)
As far as aperture control goes I have been using the DOF check and rewmoving the lens. Works fine. It will do the job until I get a proper macro lens.

Cheers,
Craig.

Fairy nuff. It's a little annoying having to remove, adjust, reattach though.
