As often as I can I hit the beaches to shoot surfing. This is if weather and waves permit. I have learned that there is a magic hour for getting really good light and color for surfing. For the east coast of Florida depending on the time of year it is right around 4:30 to 5:30 during the winter months and 6:30 to 7:30 during the summer. Great sunset lighting that adds to the action. Here are a few.

Nice shots. I am usually the one in the water, so I havent had a chance to try and shoot surfing pics. I think it would be neat to try some pics as the sun comes up. Great morning sky with sillouhette surfers.

Morning shots are okay, but you hit the nail on the head. No detail to the surfer just a sillouhette. I hit the beach after a close call with a tropical storm. Great big waves just tubing down the line. I got to the beach early thinking I'd get all the great shots. I was a little disappointed with all the surfers being so dark without much detail. Thanks Juan!

My set up is an easy one, canon 20d, sigma 50-500mm (bigma), handheld for all the shots. I will check out your shots right now.
