I think we could be seeing the end of the smaller SLR manufacturers.

Contax - dead
Minolta - sold out to Sony
Pentax - Selling out to Hoya
Yashica - who?
Nikon - keeps making bad business decisions.
Canon - keeps on going.
Kodak - dumped dSLRs.
Fuji - trying hard

What about Olympus?

Have Fun,

Rick

What about Olympus?

for 'Olympus' soon read 'Panasonic'. Sorry: 'Matsu****a'
And of course for 'Nikon' read 'Mitsubishi'.

EDIT not my asterisks - let me try it phonetically : 'Matsusheeta'

Condyk has the idea. Hoya is the parent of Tokina. You could see some interesting products come out of this "Merger".

On their high end - Tokina does make some very nice glass.

A 40D, a 30D, some nice glass and a great Shooting Partner.

Well, Pentax's new upcoming Star lenses are suppose to have a version of USM AF motors, perhaps the next generation of Tokina pro grade lenses will have such AF motors as well.

Link to article please? I would like to read this myself.

EDIT: With a little research  I found this on Hoya's website. Hoya did NOT "swallow up Pentax"

Yak yak... cameras... lenses... mount keeps going

Pentax isn't going to be killed off.

Before you roll your eyes, read up on business 101.

There's a difference between a financial "swallow up" and product line discontinuation.

They can get bought out financially, but the product lines can still keep going if they're profitable.
