Long story short...

Last night some lunatic barricaded himself into the neighborhood community center where I live. Holding his wife hostage at gunpoint. Blazed off seven rounds at some cops but didn't hit anyone. They had a huge section of the road blocked off, three "Mobile Command Unit" police RV things, an Armored tank, the swat team, about a million cops, and a few news stations. It was interesting to say the least.

These are some of the first actual shots I took with my 20d. I think they turned out pretty good despite shooting at ISO 1600.

Comments and Crits are Welcome.

First and last are excellent shots. Very well exposed. I'm a little at odds with the middle one though, I think it's because of the dark line going across the shot which appears and disappears.

Fine work.

Thanks! Yeah, the middle on with the grass is a bit strange indeed.

Not sure, I was there for about an hour and a half and nothing was really happening except my hands getting colder and colder so I left. Im sure it was on the news last night, so I will see what I can find and let you know.

Here is a video I found. When they show Macaroni Grill you can see my roommate and I standing there. I am talking on my cell, wearing white shoes and a backpack. I'm famous now right? hahahha

All of them were shot using my 50mm f/1.8

I took a few with the Tokina but I didnt really like any of them.

Blimey... All the shots I've ever seen, the bokeh from the 50 f/1.8 usually looks terrible, that looks pretty good to me, particularly in number one :-)

Thanks! I was thinking the same thing last night actually when I was uploading them. Looks surprisingly good.

Okay.... I shall be the weird guy. I like number two. The ghostly shadows cut across the expanse of unnaturally lit grass to give me a sense of tension that's gripping. It says, "Something's very wrong here. People are on the move. Action. TV lights. Bustle. Where to focus? So much to see." I particularly like that surreal dark gash diagonally across the grass in juxtaposition to the ghosts. In its density it's most tangible, but seems itself to also be a shadow. Plus the "Crime Scene" tape forming an upper border reinforces the danger. Yeah... that one is my framer.

Thanks for sharing...

Ted
