Old style two-piece bag for 30D

Hello, I have just bought myself a 30D, and have been trying to find an old style two piece bag for the body, and a snap off which will allow me to take photos quickly.

I want to be able to have a case like this over my shoulder (out of sight) and be ready to shoot quickly.

Old style - body screws into tripod hole - with controls readily useable - display screen behind clear screen. I'm going travelling, and want something which is compact.

I have searched google.... and I cannot find anything which resembles this.

Can someone please put me out of my misery - OR suggest alternatives. Opinions on belt systems...... or anything which would allow me to do this.

;)

thanks

Miles.

The old "Never-ready case"? Nowadays most people just carry the camera out and slung over the shoulder inconspicuously. Perhaps something like this (external link) will meet your needs? Tamrac's not, by a long shot, the only company to make them; just the first one I checked out.

Some kind of top loading bag would be the modern way to do this - I use a Lowepro Toploader 75AW, but you won't need such a large bag if you're not using big lenses (that will take up to an EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS or EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS).

Canon do make ever-ready cases for some bodies, but they're a bad choice, not least as they only work with the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens and possibly one or two small primes.

You've got a couple options. Like David mentioned, you can look into some of the canon ever-ready cases. There's also these two options from Zing and OpTech USA:

Miles - you also mentioned belt systems. I have a Lowepro Deluxe Waistbelt / Vest Harness based setup, but that's overkill for a body and one or two small lenses (if my setup is fully laden, I'm carrying a 20D with BG-E2 grip, Speedlite 580EX, EF 16-35mm f/2.8L, EF 24-70mm f/2.8L, EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, all the hoods, tripod ring for the 70-200, cleaning kit, TC-80N3 remote and various small accessories such as spare batteries).

In any case, my Toploader 75AW is the camera case used.

If your heart is set on the type of case you described, I would think the Zing and OpTech cases would be the modern equivalent of exactly what you want.

Maybe you can try Canon EH-17L case? It is made for 20D but I think it will fit 30D also.

Try a Lowepro top-loader bag. I found I rather preferred to never use the old type ever-ready cases because of the flopping piece when the camera was used in portrait mode! And ever-ready cases typically are much more limited in the lenses that will be accomodated than the top-loader bags.
