Welcome to the forum. Lots of good reading and lots of good folks. Look over the Stickies on top of each forum. There is a wealth of info buried there.

Digital Photography is good, and bad.

There's two types of Canon Digital SLR's. One has a crop type sensor (1.6x and 1.3x), and the other has a full frame sensor (FF). Each of these types of sensors has it's pluses and minuses. Some pluses are faster frame rate speed, more AF points, a longer FOV (on crop cameras) etc. Some minuses are noise (though Canon has some pretty good noise control), expense of the equipment, dust issues, etc.

Lenses are interchangeable (EF Lenses), for the most part, between crop bodies and ff bodies. However, Canon (and sigma/tamron/etc) has lenses meant specifically for crop bodies -- Canon calls them EF-s lenses. These types of lenses (EF-s) work very well with crop bodies, such as the 30D/20D/10D/D30/D60/XTi/XT/1DMkIIN, etc. They will not work on bodies such as the 5D and 1DsMkII, as these are the only current FF cameras that are digital, available today.

Beyond that, the forums have a GREAT amount of reading, in MANY different categories, so make sure you use the 'Search' button very often. It will open up MANY doors. Enjoy...and don't become too addicted...you may wind up being broke/poor VERY soon. :)

You got the highlighted part wrong. EF-S lens compatibility has nothing to do with fullframe or not. EF-S do not work on 10D/D30/D60/1DMKIIN as you have posted.

^^ Thanks for the corrections, there, Tommy. Didn't know that EF-s's didn't work with those cameras.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p
