Some pictures taken at St. Mary's island, Whitley Bay, North East England, on 16 December.

All with the 30D + 100-400mm at 400mm, handheld.

Starling has gone to roost and not showing.
I like the others but can't help thinking they would have been even better had you used a tripod. Just a thought, thanks for showing.

Scrumpy, I'm puzzled about your mention of a tripod: does that suggest that there's a lack of sharpness here?

If so, it's not a lack that's apparent on my monitor.

Very nice shots Keith. I assume the birds did not notice you doing a leopard crawl across the beach ?
I have seen Turnstone but not at close quarters like your shots. The first Turnstone piccie is very nice. I have yet to see Sanderling even at long distance.
